Shake me up Judy
You have to wonder about this. In the last administration, didn't Manx Gas continually refuse to negotiate with IOM Government for an agreement on gas tariffs ? We're already paying more than in the U.K. Government could've used this new price rise to negotiate a better long term deal for local gas consumers. Have they just caved in to Manx Gas again ? 4

Yes there's def something immoral with the dealings that have gone on between Government and MG. They allowed MG to stall and delay also the refunds which still havent been paid and also the Government was apparently supposed to refund money also too users . None of this has happened either but the low rate to IOMG remained subsidised by the rest of us. It all stinks tbh so now the money Treasurery is going to pay out is likely what they should have done anyway. Better still they could have used the current situation as a golden opportunity to get rid of Manx Gas once and for all. How much would Manx Gas have been worth in a month's time had Tynwald not approved the rise? They could have been nationalised for peanuts. Even if you were just to allow them to operate at arms length with the same management structure like the Steam Packet. Yes gas would still be more expensive, but you would have taken MG's substantial profits out of the equation and the service would be exactly the same.
Non-Believer
There's £1M of assistance being made available apparently, there's qualification criteria available on the Gov website somewhere, I CBA looking just yet. Probably HNWs and MHKs at the top. 1

Alfie C bending over backwards for Manx Gas? Surely not. Say it ain't so. Looks like he and MG have now got what they wanted in the last administration, with the bonus that MG don't even have to pay us a £90 rebate. Trebles all round. Did anyone seriously think Alfie C, with his finance background, would put a real squeeze on Ancala Partners LLP? Non-Believer
Wasn't there a survey a couple of years ago that put a certain amount of the population in fuel poverty at that time? Today's vote will surely do nothing to ease that?

There were people on the street peacefully protesting outside Tynwald 3 years ago about the price of gas then. Stick 27% on, then add whatever impact it may have on electricity prices too. Add on various cost of living increases for the benefit of living on the Island. Gary Roberts' boys will be getting sized up for serious riot gear by now.
asitis
The developers will only fit gas boilers ! another protectionist racket. Government are good at this sort of stuff, we bought a company for 120m which was probably worth a fraction of that price in a few months, and here's another we are effectively bailing out ! 4 1

How are they bailing them out by simply removing a legal restriction on what they are allowed to sell their product for to take into account totally unprecedented international rises in the wholesale price of that product. Bloody hell people love to look for conspiracies and hidden agendas in everything. Is there anywhere in Europe where gas price haven’t been hiked? Is there anywhere in Europe where the gas supplier wasn’t able to just increase the price without having to get it approved by the countries government. Some people really need to give their heads a wobble over this. Personally I would have rather seen whatever government are going to give to assist those deemed to need it straight to Manx Gas so that everyone benefited. So many gas customers with less disposable income than those who qualify for the assistance won’t get any help at all.
