Councillor Devon Watson's contribution to the news has appeared on Twitter.

Apparently "Peel's Cathedral is now officially the property of Douglas City Council."

Is there bad blood between Douglas Council and Peel? Not sure why elected councillors are being so high and mighty about it.

Perhaps we should have applied for the title 'Soviet Socialist Republic of Douglas'?

Didn’t want to put a picture up of the sunken gardens then? People get evicted for less of a mess. I’ve a fantastic photo of how Douglas town hall threw someone’s personal belongings onto the street. Why are you giving a false front of who the Douglas corporation really are ?

If that is an accurate representation of his post then that’s highly unprofessional - and crass.

Comments like the one you quote and the Mayors snide commiserations are childish (at best).

There is change within the chamber for sure. Just look who we elected chair of the housing committee recently. Dynamics in council are changing. Old vs New Guard and the new kids are starting to win.

And Douglas seems to be benefitting so well from it...

To be fair, Peel has been trumpeting its supposed "City" status for decades, so a bit of ribbing is to be expected. Unfortunately there's a bit more to being a city than having a down-at-heel cathedral in it.

Yes, Douglas has them trumped by being completely down at heel

We'll get our own Russian nuke specially aimed at us now...despite Douglas looking like one has already landed on it previously.

It could only be an improvement...
