Beginning of the end for Boris Johnson

The Conservative Party knew who and what they were handing leadership of the party over to; there was plenty of previous. Maybe it's just become a little too public knowledge to be any further tenable?

Quite an irony.

Boris Johnson brought down by someone as amoral as he is...

Allegedly Gove has told Boris to go, plus 5 do a joint resignation letter.

“In an unprecedented move, the five ministers signed a mass resignation letter to Johnson, saying the government “cannot function” given recent scandals and calling on the prime minister to step aside.

Among the signatories was Neil O’Brien, the driving force behind the government’s flagship levelling up policy, as well as Kemi Badenoch, a levelling up and communities minister seen as a Conservative rising star.

The other signatories were Alex Burghart, a junior education minister; Lee Rowley, a business minister; and Julia Lopez, in the culture, media and sport department.”

Just as a matter of interest…

Say by some miracle his fingernails are prised from the No 10 door knob at 9am tomorrow morning?

What would happen next? Apart from the sighs of relief.

Maybe celebrations bigger than those for Her Majesty's jubilee

They would then have to elect a new party leader who by default would then be PM.

That's my understanding anyway.

Unfortunately totally amoral narcissistic serial philanderer and inveterate liar Bozo Johnson pretty much got rid of those with honesty and integrity because folks like that were a threat to his MO....

Either he goes immediately or stays on until a replacement is elected.

If he goes immediately Raab becomes Acting PM until a replacement is elected.

1922 Committee organise a leader election, which may have more than one round, candidate with lowest number of votes getting eliminated, and when two are left standing the party members get a vote.

"Johnson won't comment on delegation of ministers set to tell him to go

Chair of the Business Committee Darren Jones puts it to Johnson there are reports that a delegation of ministers are preparing to tell him to leave office.

He says, in the middle of the Liaison Committee session, that a group of cabinet ministers are "in Downing Street including the chief whip, transport secretary and your new chancellor waiting to tell you when you finish here today that it's time for you to go".

Boris Johnson says he will not give a running commentary on things he isn't aware of."

Surely he will stay on until a replacement is elected.

It’s normal. But not mandatory.

Theres one interesting “revenge” strategy. He goes to the Queen tomorrow and seeks a dissolution and fights a general election. I discount that option, but it’s possible.

Constitutionally I think the Queen could accept his resignation but refuse a dissolution and offer the position to a Tory, of the middle ground, temporarily to hold a leadership election.
