Beginning of the end for Boris Johnson

I've been reading the rolling report in the Guardian. It really is as bad as John Crace and others have reported.

A snippet. Cabinet Secretary Simon Case on Johnson's behaviour in Downing Street:

"I am at the end of my tether. He changes strategic direction every day (Monday we were all about fear of virus returning as per Europe, March etc – today we’re in ‘let it rip’ mode cos (sic) the UK is pathetic, needs a cold shower etc.) He cannot lead and we cannot support him in leading with this approach. The team captain cannot change the call on the big plays every day. The team can’t deliver anything under these circumstances. A weak team (as we have got – Hancock, Williamson, Dido, No10/CO, Perm Secs), definitely cannot succeed in these circs (sic). IT HAS TO STOP! Decide and set direction – deliver – explain."

"Gov’t isn’t actually that hard but this guy is really making it impossible..."0

"Covid was the wrong crisis for Boris Johnson's skillsets". So speaketh Lee Cain, former No.10 Director of Comms during the Covid Inquiry.

Most savvy people are well aware that BoJo wasn't put into No.10 for his skillsets in dealing with Covid or any other British crisis...

I agree, very perspicacious. "Nothing is your area Crilly, Borisyou don't have an area. Unless it is some sort of play area, with sandcastles & buckets (or dangling 20ft in the air after getting stuck on a zip-wire)". Father Ted.

The revelation that BoJo and other Tories were willing to let older people succumb to whatever Covid brought them forever tore up the illusion that BoJo (and the Tories) care for ordinary people. The weird irony of BoJo’s cynicism is that it is the older demographic who are still the most devoted Tory voters. Madness.

Farage has previously proclaimed that Putin was one of his most admired world leaders. Given that BoJo, publicly at least, has been unwaveringly pro-Ukraine (Lebedev Sr. is on records for supporting annexation of Crimea) I wonder how Farage and BoJo are going to get along over the politics of the war in Ukraine.

Incidentally, the Italian Secret Service bugged Lebedev's villa in Tuscany (they suspected Lebedev of being a spy) at the same time when BoJo was having a shindig at Lebedev's villa.

Given the savaging that former Chief Science Officer, Patrick Vallance delivered to Johnson, Gove, Sunak and Hancock over their handling of the pandemic at the Covid Inquiry yesterday, these people can now have no credibility whatsoever. Johnson "bamboozled" by science....why are we surprised?

In particular also given that the "Eat out to help out" promotion was not discussed with the science people before being implemented and "likely caused deaths".

I would need to revisit what Patrick Vallance said at the enquiry but based on what I have heard today there are those commentators who are already trying to put a spin on it.

The suggestion I heard today was that Economists were not listened to/consulted and therefore the scientists held sway over the response to Covid-19 and there was no balance.

What I believe Patrick Vallance was trying to say was that Scientists prepared models, data and statistics to support their position whereas the economists just brought vague statements and were not expected to support their views with detail.

I had the opportunity to watch some of Johnson's interrogation this afternoon, absolutely excruciating. Watching him lie through his teeth only to have the examining KC then bring up documentary evidence to prove that he was lying was hilarious.

The Irish lady lawyer advising him that simple yes/no answers would suffice before starting her questioning rather than him trying to eternally bluster and bullshit his way out of answers.

It's quite obvious now why he was put at the head of the Conservatives, in order to allow Tory excess to run amok.

He still reminds me of an Oxford student who hasn't completed his essay and is trying to justify himself with bluster.
