Likely half the population will be in fuel poverty this winter

More likely, if there is a hand out to be had, half will claim they are in fuel poverty but are not really.

The island has a myriad of real pressing issues, and serious problems and Silly Billy Henderson is prattling on asking questions in Tynpotwald, about cars running their engines whilst stationary. Yes it is a problem and can lead to air pollution, but it’s hardly a priority, especially when you are a MLC working within the Treasury, and you are an ex Mental Health Nurse.

I don't know if he means idling in queuing traffic, which cars with a stop start function can handle satisfactorily, or people running their cars at the side of the road? Continuous use of the starter on older cars will see lots of stranded cars at roundabouts and people stalling. The criminally inflated fuel cost takes care of everything else!

What a stupid question, there are laws regarding leaving a vehicle unattended with the engine running already in existence!

The biggest mistake is leaving Bill Henderson running in LegCo.

Maybe he's starting to feel the squeeze. He couldn't get by on less than £50k before, he must be really struggling now....

The two questions are:

23. The Hon. Member of the Council, Mr Henderson, to ask the Minister for Education, Sport and Culture –

Further to the Answers given by her predecessor in Tynwald on 15th June 2021, what action has been taken to prevent unnecessary running of vehicle engines in schools and in other places where young people gather.

30. The Hon. Member of the Council, Mr Henderson, to ask the Minister for Infrastructure –

Further to the answer given by his predecessor in Tynwald on 15th June 2021, what progress has been made towards establishing and enforcing a Governmentwide policy against the unnecessary running of vehicle engines on publicly owned property.

Which rather gives the impression he's just woken up after a year's sleep.  So it's not unattended vehicles - for which as you say it is already illegal and sometimes prosecuted.  But it seems a bit marginal especially as for example parents waiting to pick kids up tend to be on public roads not school property.  And how do you define 'unnecessary'?

Has someone woken silly Billy up ? I see he has another question regarding the price of driving licences for over 70's Treasury used to have some input into that at one time , but it looks like Treasury don't have any control over anything  anymore ,including capital projects and value for money ,

Pity the story about Gas being OK as far as producing harmful emissions didn't break before the Tynwald debate on Crogga , also announced the Germans are firing up their coal fired plants again because of uncertainty of gas supply from Russia ,  and here we are busting a gut and forcing people into fuel poverty  jut to tick a few boxes , shame on the members who think  we should set an example ,without waiting to see whet is happening in the real world ,

It was an excellent programme. My main takeaways are:

1. Methane leaks from so-called ‘natural’ gas production are just as damaging to the environment as burning coal. Promoting the usage of gas as ‘harmless’ ‘green’ energy is a ‘greenwash’, pure and simple. Anybody who says otherwise is deliberately deceiving the public.

2. Fossil fuel companies and their lackeys (corrupt politicians, corrupt scientists, corrupt journalists, etc.) have known for many years/ decades that carbon and methane emissions are the causes of manmade climate change. Unfortunately, the classic cliché about ‘estate agents and used car salesmen’ selling their grannies when they hear the intoxicating sound of ‘ka-ching!’ is a kids’ playground compared to what the executives from the oil and gas industry were prepared to do in order to hide the truth. Their lies have critically delayed the development of alternative green energy technologies that humanity now needs to minimise climate change. In some form or another we are all victims of their dishonesty, which was perpetrated on a global scale. Interestingly, the almighty US Congress seems to be finally getting serious about bringing these companies to justice. Watch this space.

3. Currently every living thing on this planet is a (often unaware) passenger on the sinking Titanic, but the music is still playing and we are all still dancing. The debate about ‘who is the biggest polluter of them all’ is an almost pointless secondary discussion. The main issue is the harsh reality that widespread destruction is happening and people need to make drastic changes to their lifestyles or ‘perish’. Over to governments then - but as one politician said in the aftermath of the Great Financial Crisis in 2009 – “we all know what to do, what we don’t know is how to get re-elected once we have done it”.

The only reason for opening Crogga should be energy crisis in Europe - if they can't provide in the immediate future then forget it

There is an energy crisis already in Europe and will be long time into the future.
