Careless DOI

It seems the DOI left valuable metal cable discarded on the road side overnight and now it's been stolen.

Very careless use of taxpayers money by the railways. The police are always reminding the GMP to take care of valuables.

Apparently there is no crime on the Isle of Man. Gary Roberts Chief Constable says it’s fallen.

I am afraid in this instance, unless the police go around every scrapyard then it may have disappeared. Meanwhile the DOI are just lazy, it could have been removed by them for safe keeping, but I’m sure they were probably watching the time - knocking off time!

To be fair it would be reasonable to assume it wouldn't be nicked if just left overnight and they didn't have the means to take it back to a depot. Baldrine is hardly inner city Liverpool. Sometimes criminality happens, unfortunately..

A little thought and ingenuity would have got the cable to the depot. Opportunity knocks if someone saw that cable lying on the verge and you can’t blame them. Besides whoever took it (on a main road) would need transport and manpower, obviously it didn’t stop them.

200m of copper cable will have considerable value, maybe the public could also be advised of the purchase cost - they paid for it.

In the current economic climate, opportunist theft is likely to be on the up.

Someone got themselves organised pretty quick. Had to be a Hiab or digger with forks as they would be some weight. Also a wagon to shift it. Opportunist or what.

Yup.
