Omobono
there are quite a few nutters driving around town accelerating their cars revving engines which produce a large bang in the exhaust system there is one particular driver who goes past my house after midnight ,and when he changes gear the noise from the exhaust pipe shakes the windows , there were some nutters in Victoria street the other day revving up and the noise and subsequent exhaust explosions causing pedestrians to jump , I know its a fad , but in the warm weather with windows open its becoming a bloody pain , and anyway is it not illegal to have a defective exhaust ,

hampsterkahn
There do seem a few of them around. Thankfully only a few.. Perhaps though we should view the noise, the high revving, the silencer with baffles removed, the re-mapped ecu to give backfires etc the screeching of tyres in a more positive light: It is a road safety feature. How else are we to be alerted to have advance warning of the presence of of an immature sociopath in charge of a motor vehicle somewhere in the district? Happier diner
My missus always says its a sign of someone with a very small penis. She can't be completely right though as my car has a very quiet exhaust note. 1
snowman
If you're behind one of these cars at a roundabout your car will shake when this bang goes off. It will also be quite a shock to the system, especially if you are of a nervous disposition. Does this explain why police have bee n parked up at Braddan Bridge for the last few days ? Absolutely right - treat it as a free "Wanker Alert".

One dilbert used to come up our road revving his engine to get the desired "bang" I offered to reshape his car if he did it again, Haven't seen him for a while... Annoymouse
The police don’t care, the environmental agency/test centre don’t care and basically people can do whatever they want with minimal risk of being challenged let alone charged, when was the last time you saw an unroadworthy vehicle charge being brought to court? The pop/crackle map has more than likely been tuned locally, along with a straight through exhaust, perhaps make these modifications illegal to perform and go after the companies offering these services instead.
hissingsid
There are more and more I think, if they turn a blind eye to speeding and stupid parking why would the plod bother with this. Bread and butter policing has gone out of the window.
Annoymouse
One of the first things I’d question is whether these vehicles are actually insured correctly, any modifications from standard should be declared, but the insurance companies over here seem pretty soft, a lot of these cars if involved in incidents and found to be modified should have the policy void from inception, but that’s relying on a insurance assessor who knows a standard car from a modified one and chances are they won’t.

Lots of insurers aren't bothered about non-performance enhancing modifications. They just won't cover the costs of those parts when it comes to paying out. Would they use a non-performance enhancing modification as an excuse not to pay out in the event of someone being injured or killed?
