The report identifies a lot of problems beyond the control of the police: cooperation with other agencies, and matters only government can address. The DHA response is a masterpiece of deflection and "Yes Minister" tactics - the information is out of date, the inspection failed to take into account etc. Some matters will grudgingly 'be considered'. The police have largely done as suggested and come out quite well; the government less so.

'Serious organised crime' sounds a bit like the Sopranos have moved to the island?

I imagine it refers to the fact that the island is an outlet for drug gangs from the UK, rather than us having a branch of the Mafia based in the back rooms of the Outback or Ballakebabs?

Organised Crime is defined as 'planned and co-ordinated criminal behaviour and conduct by people working together on a continuous basis. Their motivation is often, but not always, financial gain'.

So for example, the above definition would fit a gang of shoplifters operating in Strand Street.  Not quite what most of us imagine organised crime to be.

Some might say the definition nearly fits most governments...

Not bothered about the ‘Met’, we should be bothered about IOM Constabulary as opposed to other UK forces.

Lack of public engagement.

Police Consultative Forum needed to ensure the public's views are known.

Not really, but I behave myself, I make sure I obey the laws of the land, tax my vehicles, don’t do drugs - so I don’t have any dealings with them. However, we need to concentrate on the IOM not using other jurisdictions as an excuse for our failings (smokescreen/get out of jail free card).

Well some might say that but it’s a long way from a definition of Organised Crime that “ nearly” fits most governments.

Some examples, if you have any, may help with an explanation of that statement

Well you have a point there, our government behaves a bit like a Mafia organisation. It employs all the tools in much the same way, extortion, bribery, bullying, threatening, manipulation, in fact everything but murder, as far as we know!

Few interesting nuggets

The IOMC is currently working with the Isle of Man Immigration Service and the
Attorney General’s Chambers to require ferry companies to supply passenger
information. This, as it is developed, will increase checks and intelligence gathering at the border.

We all suspected this post COVID when there was an attempt to keep landing forms being a thing. Seems there's a push now to link up much like airline 'advanced passenger information' and may explain the recent changes to the SPCOs booking forms looking for more personal data than previously.

Also as below;

1) Number of drug busts via post rise massively

2) Response within target times down heavily.

The full inspection report is here:

An inspection of the Isle of Man Constabulary

The actual inspection took place in November and December 2021, so the Government has sat on this for about a year.

They were going to shred it, but the shredder was broken and was sent to the DoI to fix it, as they had specified a Manx shredder for Manx problems, the DoI sent it away to the company who made it, who said that the spec......................
