The cargo plane carrying the post was cancelled again today. This seems to be a recurring theme with the Post Office at the moment.

It never seemed to be a problem in the past and the only cancellations were down to bad weather (totally understandable).

It could be coincidence but since West Atlantic switched from the ATP to the ATR aircraft, there's been big issues with tech reliability.

Maybe instead of worrying about funfairs, MHKs could concern themselves with more important things like this.

Not sure what can be done about a plane contracted by Royal Mail, unless you know a way of forcing then to hire an expensive jet?

There's other providers. Loganair were after it not so long ago.

Would that be out of the frying pan in to the fire?

Suggest you contact Royal Mail to make that suggestion, I’m sure they’ll appreciate it

As discussed that here long time ago. Loganair tried to bully securing the mail flight. I don't think its contracted by Royal Mail I'm pretty sure it's contracted IOM end. Eggs in basket comes to mind and following Brexit, the number of operators we can turn to for operating the postal flight is reduced.

The ATP was awesomely reliable and great as a passenger plane too. Miss them.

I don't know how West Atlantics business down at the airport is going. It must have been a blow when Loganair decided to take on their own line maintenance rather than use WA as previous operators here had done.

We also discussed here in the past about the fact that other operators e.g. DHL also bring in their own daily plane. Maybe we can get something bigger and more reliable if forces were combined.

Those old ATRs are dogs and maintenance nightmares.

It brings in Royal mail post etc , therefore it’s contracted by Royal Mail!!

It takes Isle of Man post away and puts it in to RMs network too..

I don't know for fact, but I'm pretty sure it's contracted on the IOM side.

According to the press report, it's (as stated by Banker) a Royal Mail issue. IOMPO uses the same service for outgoing mail, is aware of recent problems and is considering options.
