presumably we had a Govenor at some time , i.e Governors Bridge etc ???

and if we did... why, and when did the job title become Lieutenant Govenor??

So what brought about that change in the job title??? Was there a change in the responsibilities??

Seems to me its an evolving position - so why not a change of job title to reflect that the IOM is no longer in need of day to day governing by the British Crown?? or the politicians in Westminster.

Hoping someone with a genuine interst in the subject can post a factual and informative reply.

This is still subject to the Approval of the Queen, but most motions in Tynwald are. But will this one be a rubber stamp also? If you feel the title should not be changed, write or email The Queen! (Address further up the thread).

If you are quite happy with all this and Tynwald has done as you would have wanted . . . do nought our kid.

:)

Anyone whose proud to be Manx and proud of our independence from the UK (if not from the Crown) should be in favour of anything that gives the island greater sovereignty even if it's just a change of name. I voted for 'we don't need a representative' because I feel that the time has finally come for the island to seek full independence and stand up for itself in the world. The island now only relies on the UK for defence - it has started making its own treaties and agreements with foreign governments which was previously the reserve of the UK.
