New Magazine For The Island?

Was speaking a mate last night and it looks like there's a new high quality magazine for the IOM due out next year called Banter. Checked out the facebook group and it appears to be a quirky Entertainment mag, supporting local bands and up and coming talented locals. Anyone heard anything about it or know the guys writing it? I think they're only mid-20's looking at the video on facebook so its possibly aimed at fairly young people. Personally think it would be good, given the newspaper's poxy attempts at entertainment.

What are we supposed to be looking at? The group more or less repeats what you've just said, only with some arch references to pleasingly lame pop culture thrown in for good measure.

Fair play for starting something like this up, but with the scant information given it's looking a little like the minutes of a late night meeting at the student union bar.

That's why i'm asking has anyone heard anymore about it as apparently it's starting to generate some hype so i'm interested to learn more about who and what's involved. There's an email address on the group so i'll drop them an email and ask for more info.

Hi Mark, is this why you are new to the forums? trying to drum up some publicity for your new mag? ;)

Indeed spermann! Any publicity is good publicity unless you're a vicar caught with his pants down. As for the stock catching fire wish earlier, Terry - send me your address and i'll post you a signed copy!

I know one of the founders/writers of the 'Banter' quite well, so my view is obviously biased. However, I have had unrelated freinds talk to me about it as they are in a band and where interviewed by Steen (one of the founders/writers), so other people do know of it.

What I know is that it will be aimed as youth magazine meaning 15-25's. However I'll give it a read and I'm in my 30's. I think it will be a bit of a 'what's on guide' for the island's younger generation, including bands, music, movies and other going's on and general 'banter'... hence the name.

I've read some of his unrelated stuff and found it very amusing (again, I may be biased), and hence I'm looking forward to it.

Personally I think encouragement rather than sinicism should be the menu of the day. They've got more balls and creativity than me for doing it, so best of luck to em'!!

To be fair, it's hard not to be cynical. Does the world really need another vanity fanzine that grows wearisome after the seventh reference to Murder She Wrote?

Still, in the name of encouragement, I present to you 'Uncle Vinnie's handy guide to viral marketing'

1. Don't make your first post on a forum one discussing a super new product or service you've heard people talking about, especially if those people consist entirely of friends involved in what you're trying to flog.

2. As Mr Sausages pointed out, don't use phrases like "high quality", etc.

3. Don't choose a nick that makes you easily identifiable as someone working on what you're trying to promote

4. Don't bother with viral marketing in the first place, it's tacky.

Agree. Better to be honest with folks when pushing it rather than pull this 'I was talking to a mate....' bollocks though.
