What about getting hold of the electorall roll, that may give you one or two clues you can use the elimnation process and at least you will have warnings as to whether any other members in the household over the age of 17/18. I am sure someone can verify the age. I tried desperately to contact an old drinking buddy and looked forward to catching up on old times there was never any romance I had a bf and he had loads of female friends back in the day. On a recent trip back to the IOm someone put me in touch with him, I was told where he worked, went in and said hello and he just didnt want to speak to me. I did make sure I wasn't going to cause him any trouble at all before i proceeded, but after 5 mins of very strained conversation I realsied I was wasting my time so just left. Another old drinking buddy found me about 6 months ago through friends reunited and gave me the impression that he was over the moon to have contact with me again. I asked him about his life and got pages of it in an email, not once did he ask what had ahappened to me int he last 20+ years, did I have kids? What did I work at? Was I married/ single etc? None of these questions occured to him, he was just interested in using me as an agony aunt to sort out his divorce and allt he problems that came with it. I realised what a selfish person he really was,told him so and have never had contact with him again. I wasnt looking for more then friendship, but I needed treating with a bit more respect! A lot of water had gone under the bridge people change, but then am quite good at conforming but a friendship, no matter how long the gap inbetween has been, needs to be 2 sided. Finding Dave Wall Posted July 28, 2008 Author Share Posted July 28, 2008 Be careful where you tread.I have been in a situation like this, after finding said person and the accompanying joy it brought with it there was disappointment that a meeting can never take place. I was happy for them and wish them happiness still but my feeling of hopelessness was pretty hard to swallow. We can want something out of curiosity or longing, we often get no satisfaction on either front. Good luck with your search and I hope it ends well for the both of you. I hear where you're coming from and am sorry it didn't work out for you. I wouldn't trade pain for the good experiences that preceeded it. Hopefully on hindsite or in time you wouldn't do either. I don't plan to hang around long enough to cut and salt wounds for anyone in the event this would turn out to be an inappropriate meeting. So fingers crossed all would escape unscathed. Cheeky ba$tard. I find it very strange and not a little sinister that people want to put all their personal details on t'internet for everyone to see. And even stranger that people are interested in all the tawdry details of other people's lives. I know people on the island are nosy and far too interested in other people's business but these websites take it to the nth degree. Seems like legalised stalking to me.
