ane1 Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Hello I am coming over to the island next month for a visit and will need to hire a car for about 10 days can any one suggest a cheep car hire firm. Have tried athol but they are quite expensive.
ans Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 If you're not fussy on getting a plush car, you can do a lot worse than Kirk Michael motors. They give you a decent enough roadworthy car for a few quid a day. Very cheap and cheerful.
ane1 Posted August 23, 2004 Author Posted August 23, 2004 Thank you Ans Do you happen to have a contact no for them or better still a e-mail or web address
ans Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 I think it's this one Michael Car Centre (Sales) Tel: (01624) 878799 Michael Car Centre (Service & Parts) Tel: (01624) 878788 Michael Car Centre (Administration) Tel: (01624) 878744 Michael Car Centre (Fax Line Only) Tel: (01624) 878741 No phone book to hand, that's from the online directory at www.manx-telecom.com . If someone has a book handy if they could check.... EDIT: Corecting numbers
Mission Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Just checked it in the book, the number is as ans posted.
ane1 Posted August 23, 2004 Author Posted August 23, 2004 I think it's this one Michael Car Centre (Sales) Tel: (01624) 878799 Well as long as they have a car I'm sure they will be fine, don't want a mower, that might be a bit slow and where would I put the baby LOL. Edit by ans to correct quoted section.
inspector Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Its probably Michael Car Centre as opposed to Kirk Michael Motors. Easily confused tbh. MCC do the hire cars.
ans Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 You're quite right, I knew there was something contentious about it. Good job I got Mission to check it! Michael Car Centre (Sales) Tel: (01624) 878799 Michael Car Centre (Service & Parts) Tel: (01624) 878788 Michael Car Centre (Administration) Tel: (01624) 878744 Michael Car Centre (Fax Line Only) Tel: (01624) 878741
manxman8180 Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 If you're not fussy on getting a plush car, you can do a lot worse than Kirk Michael motors. They give you a decent enough roadworthy car for a few quid a day. Very cheap and cheerful. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just be careful though, cos although they're cheap, I think you've got to pay for a minimum period (3 months or something like that). Plus you have to arrange your own insurance cover for them. I think that's the case but not 100% sure. Later
ane1 Posted August 24, 2004 Author Posted August 24, 2004 No good just called them but min hire is 6 months I only need a car for 10 days
ans Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Sorry, I didn't know that was the case. Makes me think though, I have a car that I own outright and rarely use. I wonder if it would make more financial sense to sell it and just hire one of these cars in six month blocks. Especially when I wouldn't have to pay road tax... Hmmm!
inspector Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 I too had thought of that but never got around to doing anything about it. Let me know how you get on if you make enquiries. Not sure but the only cars that I see appear to be Protons and I don`t fancy being seen in one of them !
Addie Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Hi ane1 Try Corkill's 4WD & Van Centre - may be in the phone book as being in Union Mills, they've recently moved to near B&Q though. Good prices - almost half the main operaters! As I'm off island, don't know their number off hand, sorry.
BigDave Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 It might be worth checking the national press etc for deals from the big car hire firms as they all have agents over here. St Bernards are reputedly quite cheap and have reasonable cars. They are on 01624 613878
