puddy Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 What silly things did you used to think were true when you were younger? I can't think of them all right now but here are a few of mine... I used to think that Blackpool was a big black swimming pool and the swimming baths were a giant bath, really deep so I was too scared to go to either. I thought that Peel was where people's skin was peeling off (now I realise it's knickers) heh. Speaking of Peel, I thought it was a well hard city and when we had a Brownie Pack Holiday there in 1988 (best holiday of my life btw) we all walked around terrified and clutching onto our purses and cameras. There were urban legends about pick pockets in Peel passed down from Brownie Pack Holidays before us. I thought that everyone lived to be a hundred and then died on their hundredth birthday. I thought that Manx people didn't have an accent whatsoever, it was everyone else in the world who did. I thought that babies came from your bellybutton and that's the way they got in there too (blame my mother for that one). I thought that when you started your periods you bled everyday............for the rest of your life............. That one wasn't explained very well to me. I thought that eating a packet of crisps could be evened out by drinking a diet coke. I also thought that "snowwashed" denim would always be in fashion...
RC-Drift.com Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 I used to think a Google was the biggest number in the world I used to believe there was a time called 'the olden days' Captain Scarlet was really indestructible Chewing your nails gave you worms 15 years ago I thought it would be great to be able to create your own CD on your pc I thought I wanted to be single all my life
ykstarr Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 i thought when swimming in the pool, the layer of water was only on the top, and you could breath underneath.... i thought for sure you would be able to grab a piece of cloud, if only you could get up there. so when flying with my dad one day i asked if i could open a window a grab a cloud - could not understand it when he told me this was impossible from a number of aspects. i thought i was going to be the next BMX champion i thought i would never, ever want children
silky Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 I thought that babies came from your bellybutton and that's the way they got in there too (blame my mother for that one). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My mum always said I came from "a twinkle in my Dads eye" ... found that very confusing as a young child!!
Minnie Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 My mum used to tell me if I swallowed pips I'd get a tree growing out of my ear. She also told me if I swallowed chewing gum it would wrap around my heart and kill me.
silky Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 She also told me if I swallowed chewing gum it would wrap around my heart and kill me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Me too I used to also be frightened of the police, as I thought they would come up and randomly arrest me for no reason!! - I still think this lol!!!
Jay Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 When I was a kid, my mum used to say if a pulled a funny face and the wind changed direction, I would stay like that permanently......I really shoulda listened to her
Educa Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 Hard to believe I was that "daft" but I was very young... I thought if I sat in front of a fire...I would get a tan (and even tried it...)..went a nice beet-root all right... Went to where a rainbow had looked liked it ended - and dug for gold... Oh yeah and since I have got older... Believed I would win the lottery and wasted money (and still do regularly!!)
The Old Git Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 When I was younger I used to believe that you really could see the Great Wall of China from space
Educa Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 When I was younger I used to believe that you really could see the Great Wall of China from space <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ..but you can???? From a low orbit of the earth, many artificial objects are visible on the earth, such as highways, ships in the sea, railroads, cities, fields of crops, and even some individual buildings. While at a low orbit, the Great Wall of China can be seen from space but it is not unique in that regard. (However - The Great Wall can barely be seen from the Shuttle, so it would not be possible to see it from the Moon with the naked eye." Thus, it'd be tough to spot the Great Wall of China or any other object from the moon. Furthermore, from the moon, even the continents are barely visible.
Speckled Frost Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 There is a disused building, an old pumphouse or something, in Molly Quirk's Glen which I was told used to be a chocolate factory. The times I'd spend looking for abandoned cocoa products..........
monkey_magic Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 I remember asking my Dad once, "Did you used to be a boy?" when he told me the 8 year old kid in the photo was him. I suppose I must have thought you were either born a child or a grown up. I also thought that colour was invented in 1970 or so, but I suspect that's a common one. I also remember someone asking me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I replied "A dinosaur." It's true, I do.
ans Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 I asked my mother if I used to talk to my sister when we were in her tummy together. We're not twins.
Speckled Frost Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 For some reason I believed the tooth fairy still existed long after I stopped believing in father Christmas and the Easter Bunny. Something about the fact the fairy dealt in hard currency must have appealed.
