The Old Git Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 When I was younger I used to believe that you really could see the Great Wall of China from space <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ..but you can???? From a low orbit of the earth, many artificial objects are visible on the earth, True, what I meant was the erroneous claim that it could be seen from space with the inference that it was the only thing that could be seen from space.
Mission Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 I can't believe I'm going to post this up but... When I was younger (around 11 I think) we had sex education classes at school. A 'sexpert' came in and gave us a talk and we watched a video which explained what was what. After all of this, we had a question and answer session. I had a really good question that I just had to ask. My question was "how does a man get pregnant?" to which, the 'sexpert' replied "a man cannot get pregnant, it is biologically impossible, what on earth made you ask such a question?" I replied that I had seen a movie a few weeks before this and there was a man in it that was pregnant and in labour and that was why I wanted to know how it was possible. At this point, the entire year was in fits of laughter, as were the teachers and the 'sexpert' was trying her level best to keep a straight face. Now, as a lad, I was extremely niave, shy and easily embarrassed. I think I reached a nice tint of purple, which remained for the next hour or so as various people came up to me in the playground to taunt me and by the end of the day, the whole school knew about it. Maybe ten years or so later, that same film was on the television again. It was a Carry On film and the pregnant man was not pregnant at all, he merely had a phantom pregnancy in some form of sympathetic response to his wifes pregnancy. In closing, the moral of this story is: always check your facts before opening your mouth or prepare to be ridiculed ad infinitum. *There are probably countless other things I used to think/believe, but none could match the stupidity of the above.
Bill Posters Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 Mission, I feel failry sure we've all had moments like that when we were younger. Brave of you to share. (Now, where did I put my IUD?)
simon Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 One of my friends told me that his parents "didn't believe" in television. When I was young I used to believe that thousands of people had been killed in the "Great Wall".
