HEALTH campaigners last night demanded a suspension of laser eye surgery after claims some machines have developed faults which could lead to damaged eyesight.

The high street chain store Boots the Chemist was yesterday contacting patients after it discovered two lawsuits have been lodged in American courts claiming that a batch of machines have started malfunctioning, causing blurred vision and other serious eye problems.

Oooerr, and what about retina scans? we'll all be walking around with cateracts in a decade or so

I'd need a white stick if I was to venture outside minus glasses or contact lenses.

When I turned 25 I went to see Boots about laser surgery but they told me my eyes were outside their short-sighted limit and although alternative treatments were possible, they would involve inserting a lens into my eye, plus laser treatment and this would cost me several thousand pounds. The treatment also had a higher risk than laser surgery alone and because I have unusually large pupils I would have a high risk of permanent scarring, etc, etc......

It didn't sound good and I didn't do it, but it was still tempting. I wouldn't even consider it now though.

Having laser treatment would dramatically increase the quality of my life, as I'm sure it does for many of the people who choose to do this, but having thought about it a bit more, I actually like not being able to see properly, it's like being instantly drunk whever I feel like it, with no hangover...

All I can see is colours and everything moving towards me in slow motion, I don't know who I'm talking to, I stumble and fall over things, I spill my drink, I think I'm a really good dancer, plus everyone looks really really attractive. Saves me a fortune when I go out.
