I went into one of the bookshops and looked who the local authors used - speak to them about their experiences.

 

I have to say that there is at least one local publisher I would not go to, especially when they seem to claim the copyright for YOUR work and don't even bother to even cursorily proof read despite claiming to do such a job properly, but there were plenty of other reasons.
