purrrrrrrrrrry Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Jesus said "have faith in me" He did NOT say "you must attend a church-shaped building on an at least weekly basis" And NEITHER did he say that it was totally ok to be a hypocritical arsehole just because some knobhead in the CoE said that it's all be ok, all will be forgiven... (Yes, even you Mr Senior CoE Ba$tard - and for some reason I think that Christ will NOT forgive you, no matter what you, your darling wife, and your no-balls son might "believe") On that basis alone, "Religion" per se, means NOTHING. Hallelujah! (Hahahahaha!) It is all a complete load of pants, a comfort blanket, but sadly a reason d'etre for too many, and a reason to judge and pass scorn by ppl who really *should* be burned in hell for all eternity! The only thing that matters is how you live your life and what is in your HEART. It really is THAT simple! I have the upmost respect for ppl who truly believe and enact their "religion", whatever it may be. And I also know who the ones are who are most at ease with themselves, with life, with death... If anyone DOES feel the need to categorise it, try Belief-O-Matic: http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html
the mo beats experience Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 i agree with everything you said miss purrrrrrrrry, except the jesus said bit, he didn't, cos he wasn't there, he was invented many many years later so that someone could write the most popular book in the world! i love all these yanks that pour millions into fat pretend preachers pockets, don't think my views'd go down too well with them! xxxxxx to it, if there is a god, he'll forgive anyway, or so they they say!!! hows the cats, by the way?
purrrrrrrrrrry Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 Hey mo, I'm with on the "jesus said" bit - was trying to be diplomatic (but simultaneously on a wind-up as in my experience many die-hard 'whatevers' just can't give a decent answer to that) Which is also why the whole deal can xxxx me off!! Some ppl function ok, just as long as they don't have to think outside the box, or wander too far from their seemingly pre-prepared scripts. "Religion" per se is more often to do with compliance and often doesn't encourage free-thinking, open-mindedness, tolerance, objectivity, etc, etc, ad infinitum... I do hate that "will be forgiven anyway attitude" which seems to think some ppl are absolved from taking any responsibility in life - some so-called church-goers would be fried alive in some countries on this earth! (Which is kinda ironic - hahahahahahahaha!!! ) At the end of the day, all that matters is if we are being true to ourselves, and to others... "How are the cats?" They are wonderful...*sigh* They truly are divine creatures, I love the way they melt your heart just with a look and constantly redefine the meaning of unconditional love (and tolerance, and patience, heeheh!) - something sadly a bit lacking on this earth. No wonder cats were so revered in the days of Cat Worship - which is quite possibly the only "religion" that actually makes any sense heehehehehe! Hope your friend is doing well, and her kitty too.
gutterflower Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 i voted agnostic. i was brought up Christian, but i no longer "believe" all that. there are so many questions(anyone ever read 'Gods Debris?'), and ive never had an amazing experience with God or anything thats driven me to thinking 'wow, jesus gave his LIFE for ME, thats just so AMAZING' i dont like the idea of not being worthy, and devoting our life for jesus, so we can live in for ourselves in heaven?!! sorry, i just dont like that. whenever i go to church, about three times a year.. i feel like im in a cult or something, when we reciete prayers.. i dont know really - i guess its just the whole us being unworthy sinners who need to constintly redeem ourselves, because were such terribly selfish people. well, humanity genewrally are..but still.. anyway. the reason i think im agnostic is that everyone should be entiteled to their opinions.. its just i dont like it how certain people force their views on certain other people.. and it causes so much war and hate its just riducilous. however, i have some strongly religious friends, and their faith in God has helped them get through depression, and i ahve know doubt that they just get that amazing feeling. now whether that has anything to do with a 'God' i dont know. i used to think maybe it was something inside yourself - if you had such strong faith in something.. regardless of whether its 'real' or not, it could keep you holding on. anyhoo, shutting up time. basically, everyones entitled to their own opinions and i believe some people have found something really special. but as for all the fighting?..
