Manx Jam Designs would like to announce that the new Manx Arcade is now live and ready for action.

The new arcade features over 500 hand picked games within 10 catagorys with fully functional highscores and leaderboards.

One of the best features of the new arcade is a 2-8 player tournament system which enables you to either setup or join an existing tournament and battle it out to be champion on a chosen game.

The Manx Arcade also features your own personal settings along with avatar as well as a shoutbox.

We will be adding more features in the future as well as 5 new games a week.

Visit

http://www.manxarcade.com and register to play over 500 games today.

Had a quick play today, think 10 plays a day is a bit on the stingy side though, Is the free/cheap hosting thats available out of the question? (And do the ad's on the top not pay for the hosting?)

I think you have a choice, if you don't like it, don't go there.

Correct, I do have a choice and at 10 plays per day I doubt i'll go there.

Was just a suggestion that if its a hosting cost issue then plenty of sites offer free hosting with just a banner ad at the top, all of the games are hosted elsewhere and embedded into the site, so surely the hosting cost is for the leaderboards/scores and the member database, which shouldn't be that many GB's.......

All the games are hosted on our dedicated server and thus the bandwith costs are the reason why we charge for unlimited use. It is £10.00 per year which is 85p a month.

We also have to pay a subscription charge to get the games.

All the games are hand picked as well so most of them are good quality ones.

They are all game sites you cant save your highscore on. We have a subscription on a flash games site where we can download the games and upload them to our server so people who play in our arcade can have their highscores saved.

We thought of going down that line but we thought it was more important for people to have their highscores saved which adds more of a fun competition edge to the site.

Currently we are using nearly 3 gig of space and our bandwith is pushing 30 gig a month. This unfortunately costs. We didnt want to stop people playing in the arcade and we felt 10 free plays a day for regular members was generous enough. We arent charging an arm and a leg for unlimited use.

The reason why the old arcade shut down was because I just couldnt afford to run it any longer.

Anyhows, you are right there are free sites out there you can use, but there are also other sites charging more. If in a years time advertising on the site takes off then we will have a rethink on subsciptions.
