Like I say you change as you get older, not always for the better. I don't think you're being silly actually. I can see that if you're going to a posh restaurant and paying a lot of money and get dressed up for the occasion then you would rather hope that others would do the same. I get that, but it's how you feel that's important and that's not dependent on the dress of the others. You could do with a holiday on the south west coast of Portugal (when it stops burning). In restaurants there you can be sitting alongside someone in jewels on one side and someone in a track suit on the other. It's very laid back and everyone just does what they want and everyone has a damn good time. Life is all about change and accepting change, embracing it even. You don't have to join in, just be a willing observer - and have fun! 1 Quote

Like your parents tut tutted when Top of The Pops was on. I swore I wouldn’t get like that but as I get older it just happens in some, not all situations. I’m not proud of it! I do enjoy life and all it’s changes and variations. Edited August 22, 2023 by The Voice of Reason Insertion of “older” omitted from original version 1 1 Quote

You do make a good job of hiding it sometimes. The thing is, if we don’t just roll with it all, then we make an enemy of it and that’s a futile exercise. No one likes a grumpy old man, or woman. 🤗 Quote

No I do love life. Going back a few posts to the topic I am halfway watching a Nick Cave concert video on You Tube. In which he is wearing a lounge suit and playing the piano. It lends a sort of gravitas which wouldn’t be achieved were he wearing a T shirt and ripped jeans. I probably wouldn’t have noticed it in my younger years. But then again Joe Strummer in a two or three piece suit in 1977 would have seemed a bit incongruous . Suited the Jam then though. Sorry I’ve drifted a bit off topic. As I write Nick is performing T Rex’s Cosmic Dancer. Absolutely beautiful Edited August 22, 2023 by The Voice of Reason Addition of incongruous 1 Quote
Happier diner Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Not been much activity on here recently so here goes. We tried the ticket hall for Sunday lunch. It was lovely and great value. The only down side was that we were the only people there which always feels a bit uncomfortable. So, I recommend giving it a try. PS the menu price for Beef roast is a whopping £35. However I assume it's a printing error and it's actually £15 as out total bill was only £55. Quote

Yes not good when a place is empty. Unfortunately I’ve noticed there are less and less fellow customers when going out for meals. Cost of living crisis I guess. Or people have heard I’m going and cancelled. ( Thought I’d get that in before someone else) 1 1 Quote

PeachTea Posted March 28 Posted March 28 The Port ( in the Falcons Nest ) in Port Erin do a nice sunday carvery. We had 2 courses for around £20 a head. They were not shy with the amount of food given on the carvery. 3 meat choices, gravy, massive yorkshire puddings, stuffing, loads of veggies on offer. We thought £20 a head was good value for what we received. Food was delicious ( especially the ham). Quick service. Friendly staff. Nothing at all to complain about and we are planning on going again . Quote

The food is great but we didn't like the long queue for the carvery 1 Quote

As for seating. I have never been to Butlins but I didnt give the seating set up much thought at the time of writing the post. I didnt mind the set up but I can see your point in that It is not very "restaurant-y" . It wouldt put me off going to eat there again though. But this could be down to where we were seated ( we were on the outskirts rather in the central section). Quote

I would go there if we just wanted a quick Sunday lunch and we couldn't be bothered to do it ourselves. I wouldn't go for a special event or a treat. The talk of the town do a carvery but it's a lot more civilised. You order at the table and they call you up to get your carvery. No waiting in line. Quote
