From IOMOnline

04/00860/B Construction of a pedestrian footbridge to span the Mountain Road at a point near the entrance to the Governors Hill Estate, with erection of screening and footpath alterations, Land To Rear Of Heywood Drive And Land Adjacent To 1, Hailwood Avenue, Hailwood Avenue, Governors Hill Douglas/Onchan

Quite a good idea, its a pain in the arse if you want to get from Onchan into Governors Hill (or vice versa). Guess it'd mean a lot of people would park their cars Onchan-side.

Sounds like a great idea. It also sounds like they're not axing the TT for some time either if they are willing to spend money on a project like this.

I think you will find the application for the footbridge is to coincide with the proposed new secondary school at bermahague.

In my view it is a very good idea.

I'm surprised the North (or West) residents haven't been lobbying for an access road of their own up there. Would an underpass be that difficult to make? Must be a real pain for people who live in Peel who want to go to Ramsey during road closures.

I thought the plans for the secondary school were put on hold?

They are, but the application for planning permision is only step one of a long process. Much better to get over possible major hurdles when time is not at such a premium.

The new school has been put on hold but they are now looking into just doing the sports fields ect maybe starting next spring, and revaluate the building of the school at some point in the future, so if they actually go ahead with any of it we might at least have some descent sports facilities in Onchan.
