the stinking enigma Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 i was reading the comments section on a pretty high brow news source last week in regards to trident . this guy stated that nuclear weapons are pointless in regard to china because if every person in china stood on a kitchen chair (individually), then jumped off and landed on the ground at the same time, the resultant shock wave generated would set off tsunamis, earthquakes and, volcanic eruptions of a big enough magnitude to destroy the whole planet. is this true? the stinking enigma Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 it took me a week to summon up the courage to ask that question Quote
quilp Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 There used to be old signs at both ends of Chelsea Bridge, near the barracks, which ordered that marching soldiers broke step. The constant pounding of the hob-nails on the surface producing such force as to render it unstable. Seeing the amount of cars and commuters it carried at all times, it did make me think the earlier science may've been over-compensating. 2 Quote
Tarne Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 The stinking enigma, it's false. Not even if everyone on earth did it. Check out xkcd, they have a ton of these crazy questions. Quote
Chinahand Posted February 10, 2017 Author Posted February 10, 2017 The consequences are truly horrific even if there is no earthquake or tsunami;-) https://what-if.xkcd.com/8/ 3 Quote
woolley Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Another example of the conceit of man. He believes he affects everything when he actually has very little effect on anything in the grand scheme. 1 Quote

Tarne Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Even if all of them went off at once the earth will still be here. We might not be, but the earth doesn't care. Cheers for finding that one chinahand, I knew it had been asked and answered before! Quote
Chinahand Posted February 10, 2017 Author Posted February 10, 2017 (edited) "On average humans have one testicle." Read that today in the Economist & it made me smile. It sounds like it could be someone's signature. ;-) Edited February 10, 2017 by Chinahand 3 Quote

the stinking enigma Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 stick a rail gun and a flashing blue light on its head we are almost there. why do they make them human like? wouldn't it have better balance on 5 legs for instance. the more human like they look the more unsettling i find them in all honesty.
