funseeker Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Does anyone know of any local online dating services at all? I am a single parent and do not get out much but I would really like to start meeting people. It doesn,t help that I am really shy aswell. So if anyone can please help me I would be very grateful.
Mission Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Manx.net used to have a section on their homepage, not sure if it's still there and don't want to check and link just in case in infringes anything on this site. Your best bet for meeting people is to get yourself down to either the Traf or the Douglas (in Douglas) when there's some music on. A lot of people from the forum socialise there and they are all decent sorts. The battle of the bands heats are on at the moment so you can guarantee some good nights out over the next week or so. Don't worry too much about being shy. U'm pretty shy myself but managed to force myself to go up to the Traf one night for the acoustic night. I have to say I had a great time and met loads of people from the old manx.net forum. I think manxmaid had a site too which was for the Isle of Man and the north of England but I don't have the link to it at present. If she's a member here (which I think she is) I'm sure she'll PM you or drop you an e-mail with the link.

simon Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 OT because it doesn't relate to the IOM: I was a bit shocked when one of my ancient friends in the UK told me that he'd signed up for a party meeting service / club for singles. He was in his late mid 30s at the time, worked very hard and long hours - but hadn't met anyone significant for a while. And he had a teenage child from his first relationship. I was shocked because I never thought that anyone I knew and liked would be in such a position. It seemed to me like a ridiculously deliberate way of trying to meet people. I really thought he was clutching at straws. But the first do he went to, and the first woman he met there ... well they completely fell in love and have now been together for more than 5 years. They seem to have been exactly what the other one was looking for.
Mission Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 WTF! I was only offering some advice. And what's wrong with Pm'ing Trin huh, huh??? You've had too much sauce tonight methinks!
Observer Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 You haven't been at the PM'ing again have you Mission?? ...and you were doing so well too.....
Mission Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Sorry, the above post was in response to thebees. I too had a friend from the Isle of Wight who signed up to a singles club. He went along to a lot of their social nights and got on really well with the woman that ran it. Anyway, she ended up with someone else and he kinda drifted away from it all but, late last year, she called him up and they have been seeing each other ever since. She's a single mum and she's recently moved in with him.
Mission Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Argh! Stop picking on me. I'm off to bed now, all on my ownsome Bullies!
Observer Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 I don't see why it should be any less successful than the traditional and widely accepted boozy meat markets otherwise known as nightclubs et al.
