Bananaman Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Just been speaking to my sister about this, she remembers doing this as a project at school. They did every single bit of it on a computer. How posh?
Declan Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 This is excellent, like an Eighties wikipedia but by kids. I liked this - I'm 11 years old and I'm in the top class at Laxey Primary School. Usually on Saturday mornings I get up at 8.30am, & have breakfast usually a round of toast with jam. Then I get ready to go swimming with my friend. We get the 10.45am tram and 25 minutes later we arrive in Douglas. We pay 45p. We take the tickets, get changed and get into the pool. I like diving off the boards best. Afterwards, we walk along the prom to the Crescent Leisure Centre. It has Dodgems and all the usual arcade games and a thing called the Ribtickler which is my favourite. We're hungry by now so we go to the cafe next door for a hot dog and chips. We eat them as we walk back up the prom. Then we catch the tram home. We have tea at my friend's and watch the Comedians on TV. Then I go home. Are primary school kids in Laxey allowed to take themselves off to Douglas all day in 2011? Even if they are I bet they check in every so often by mobile. The kids in Castletown thought the town could be improved by a funfair because there's not much to do, and I bet their kids now think the same! This "Home Life In Douglas" is ace - " The usual time for me to get up on Saturdays is 11.00am. For breakfast I have sausages, bacon, toast and orange juice. My sister and I sometimes have a game of Monopoly until lunch time. We have a light lunch consisting of: bread rolls, cheese, ham and pickles. At 2.00pm. I meet my friends at the Laser disco in town where we dance to records of groups like Sister Sledge, Mai Tai and Animotion. The girls wear lightcoloured summer dresses and the boys wear Walker bottoms and Nike tops. Saturday tea time usually means salad, after which I play with my bow and arrows. At night Mum and Dad take me and my sister out somewhere. Then it's home for some supper and to bed. In part very modern sounding with it's pop groups and named brands then suddenly he becomes like Just William playing with his bow and arrows. I also see there are contributions in the South from Pam Crowe & Juan Watterson - although at the time one might have been a bit younger than most contributors and one a bit older. Pam's is a photo captioned "Fleshwick Bay, Isle of Man, as yet unspoilt by random building of tax exiles dwellings." From a pupil at Arbory School - "When I get to school I pay my money for school dinners and then copy down my spellings for the week.At 9.30 I get changed for P.E. in the hall with the large apparatus. At 10.00am we have music until playtime at 10.30am. After play we do mathematics until dinner time at 12.00 noon.At 12.30pm we have another play until Mr. Midgely takes us at 1.00pm to talk about the news in the past week. After that we do some English until playtime at 2.30pm.Boys usually play football on the school playground. After school we pick my Mum up from work" What a good way to start the week - Sport, music, play, bit of work, lunch, play, put the world to rights, read a bit or make up stories, play, football, home.

Shill Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 This is my favourite Fashion The fashions in our area are Addias Nike and Puma trainers and also there are Riki Nike Mileta Patrick and Addias coats. There are Fred Perrie jumpers and T.Shirts. Canvas trousers cords and jeans are all in fashion. The most fashionable jumpers now are baggy jumpers and bat-wing jumpers. Tight skirts are also in fashionable and so are Ski Suits. You can get different colour Ski Suits they are suits that are all crinkly POP GROUPS In our class WHAM! was the best liked pop group then it was Duran Duran. WHAM! got 14 votes and Duran Duran got 4 votes. All the girls voted WHAM! and a couple of the boys did. The other pop groups that were mentioned were Prince and Statas Quo. Prince got 3 votes and Statas Quo got 2 votes.
joeyconcrete Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Mrs. Hinde's house is a large country house surrounded by an acre of garden with a paddock to the SE. There are 7 bedrooms,3 living rooms,3 bathrooms, 1 enormous kitchen,1 sunroom,2 storage rooms, one of which was the dairy of the original farm. The furniture has been in her family for well over 100 years and she has one room furnished as her Grandmothers London drawing room was 135 years ago. Some bedrooms have four postered beds with patchwork quilts which she sews. Mrs. Hinde breakfasts at 8am doing housework and gardening everyday. At present she is moving 3 tons of stone herself to make rose beds. She hates towns and shopping, so bulk buys and bakes in large quantities. At night she sleeps out in the open air on an air bed in the garden. http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/domesday/dblock/GB-238000-479000/page/19
Kadabing Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Just looking at the comparisons between the two maps amazes me. There has certainly been hell-a-lot of building been done in the past 25 years.
