Sorry Grib you misunderstand me - I meant that it was noticable if Vader or Nessa were losing a debate a new poster would appear agreeing with them and mysteriously disappear never to be seen again.

I think they would be a great idea, not that I have ever used one myself of course but I have seen people using them.

I think gimmick accounts are great fun. They would add a bit of levity to some situations - any problems can always be moderated.

 

Clone accounts are a more difficult issue. Some of the clones on Manx Net got quite nasty - especially late at night ! Again moderation would be the answer.

 

If users could create more than one account linked to an email address the mods would clearly be able to see what was going on and who was up to what via both the IP address and the registered email.

 

Isn't that better than someone setting up a one use email address just to register a username. If they do that, no one knows whats going on. OK you can bar that account but anyone who is that way inclined will just do the same again.

 

Let people do it with tacit approval and some degree of control, please.

It should go without saying, but obviously the mods will have to be sensible about the fact that they can see IPs and possibly work out who owns what gimmick account. No point in ruining a good joke or just being an arse about it.

Mods can't actually see email addresses that were used to register with. Admins can, and there's only two of them.

 

Any user can see the email address another user currently has in their profile by clicking on 'Send an email' in their profile. It leads you to another page with a 'mailto:' link on it.

I think the gimmick accounts can be very funny and cleverly used - I personally find the clones mostly irritating.

I pressed 2 I meant to press 3 - I dont mind gimmick accounts (trin & I had one on Manxnet) but clones are nasty and can upset people.
