ManxTaxPayer Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 It's astonishing really. I believe the right car and a bit more familiarity with the closed roads would make the bikes look pedestrian .
DevilledEgg Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 A car will never make one of the top bikes/riders "look pedestrian" round the TT course. Don't get me wrong, I'm very much of the opinion that certain cars would be able to match the fastest bikes but they won't eclipse them as you suggest.
ManxTaxPayer Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I used to think like that. But this lap has changed my mind.
Tempus Fugit Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 bit of rain and Mark would just stick 'inters' on and go
RC-Drift.com Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 The right car most certainly make the bikes look slow, there isn't a track built where cars and bikes race where cars are slower ...take it to the max for example, Barcalona: F1 vs MotoGP lap times...no comparison whatsoever, Casey Stoner's Honda wouldn't even qualify even with a 10 second start
dilligaf Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Aye, I couldnt give two hoots about the TT but am now looking into where I can pop down to on friday just to see Higgins bomb past. I reckon they should use a thursday as a car race day. Get the big rally or touring cars or something. Yeah, instead of just bike nutters throwing themselves off the roads all over the joint, we'd have car nutters doing the same. I can see it now, all the cars on their roofs in the fields along the mountain path... Yes this is an awesome idea. /sarcasm. Do you not remember, or maybe you were not living here (or even born) when Ramsey Hairpin to Douglas was the final stage for the Manx International Rally ?. I don't remember lots of cars on their roofs. In fact I don't recall any on that stage. Made great veiwing indeed.

And stay indoors drinking tea and eating crumpets with a nice safe cushion.

(in a 1500cc) - good fun but the year it was misty it was cancelled, much to my disguat as I knew the road well having travelled it to work for years

spanna Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 Before this thread goes off on a tangent of normal people v the whingers, noone has anymore info on it being shown then. Is he doing a lap tomorrow ? Im sure I read somewhere the next try is on slicks as well. If he cracks 120mph that will be something else.
Monkey boy Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I think if he did it on slicks that would make a big difference & I must admitt I wondered why they did it on road tyres, especially as Tony Pond didn't. (Although ofcourse it wasn't a record attempt). As an out & out bike fan I'd like to think that a car would get nowhere near what a bike could do but I was very impressed with the lap & agree it would be great fun to find out. Mark reckoned after the lap he could go a good bit faster so yeah, get him out on slicks, just hope the weather plays ball.
