Slim Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 It's the Olympics! It's British! It's got Manxies as hot favourites for Golds! Proper impressed with the opening, little bit political, thought provoking, funny, superb attention to detail (Berners-lee had a nextstep!) but very very British. Also impressed with the BBC so far, Gazillions of channels in HD so you can pick your event. Twitter's on fire too, really elevates the experience, particularly how other nations are viewing the British effort. Isn't the future ace? Lauren Laverne summed the ceremony up quite nicely for me on the twits: "Last night Danny Boyle made a meadow into a city built on ingenuity, industry, community and humour. Perfect. Sports now, eh? Let the games begin, hope Cav wins
P.K. Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 So far so good, haven't seen any of it. I might deign to watch the Ladies Beach Volleyball though on the assumption they should all be well fit....

P.K. Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Hardly miserable - it's just that my sport happens to be cricket, that's all. And I think you'll find that cricket has a much bigger following than e.g. synchronised swimming.

And I think you'll find that cricket has a much bigger following than e.g. synchronised swimming. That's part of why I like the olympics so much. Sports like Football, Cricket and Rugby get plenty of exposure, but today you've got swimming, archery and rowing covered on BBC1. Give's them an airing, it's all good.
P.K. Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Very fair. There's a Test Match starts on Thursday where the best team in the world will be playing England. If the first test is anything to go by some superb skills will be on display. My better half sees it as me doing 5-days worth of ironing or however long the game lasts. Each to their own.
Bobbie Bobster Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Phelps outside smoker for the 400 IM tonight. It could come down to who has the legs and lungs off the last turn.
GD4ELI Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Phelps outside smoker for the 400 IM tonight. It could come down to who has the legs and lungs off the last turn. In English please?

Actually, the best team in the World will be playing South Africa according to the current standings. Go Cav!!!!!!!!!!!

Max Power Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Oh well, big shame for Mark Cavendish, I wonder what went wrong with their strategy there?
Bobbie Bobster Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 The team seemed to be marked from the start as the one to control the race, but difficult to do that with only 5 riders over the entire course. I would of course defer to Slim's analysis...
Miss Take Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Team GB had 4 guys chasing around 30 in the break away group. It was just too big a job. The Germans at least should have helped out (to get their sprinter, Greipel, in contention) long before they did but they wanted GB to wear themselves out to leave Cav without a lead out train. Everyone was so worried about Cav winning it that they let the breakaway get just that bit too much of a lead. Big shame, especially with Vinokourov winning.
