Finally admitted defeat vs his body. Hell of a career really, 3 grand slams in a time when Federer, Nadal and Djokovic were all absolutely amazing.

A bit unlovable for me, like most modern sportsmen and women. A racquet put in his hand almost before he was out of nappies; the obsession; the aggressive antics on court; the taciturn drone in interviews; the self-pity etc. He's been the boy in the bubble all his life. Lewis Hamilton is another one - great talent but hard to admire or respect. Can't scratch his own arse without a team of flunkies and advisers around him.

It'll be hard for him to give up though at what is the peak of his career.

It made me wonder if to excel you have to be so dedicated that you end up lacking basic human interactive skills because you've never had the opportunity to learn them. So you end up a bit gauche really.

Got to admire him really - in an era with three other ‘all-time greats’ to win anything is remarkable. But like others here I’ve found him a bit dull, and his recently acquired public displays of emotion seem a bit fake too - I seem to recall years ago he was criticised for not engaging with the press, after which he learned how to cry so that the public grew to love him. It’s media training gone mad.
