I must confess to reading at least three books each week. The current one is, 'Sorry! the English and their manners', by Henry Hitchins and that will be followed by, 'First Class, a history of Britain in postage stamps'.by Chris West. Both books seem very interesting at first glance, written with humour but crammed full of fascinating and weird facts concerning the English and their idiosyncrasies.

Not too impressed with the 'Manners' book, a bit dry and just crammed with facts, too much and eventually boring. The 'stamps' however is a fascinating little book. A series of vignettes offering amusing glances through the years since the beginnings created by the 'penny post'. Also a good number of little known facts such as the 12, yes 12, deliveries a day in London from 1857. Progress, what progress????
