geo Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 I'm sick of 'em! anyone know any handy hints and tips as to getting rid quick, or trying to keep them at bay? i find the creams that are supposed to stop them coming if used as soon as you feel "the tingle" just delay the inevitable! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Maybe an appointment at the VD clinic will help, it may be more than just cold sores !! FCMR Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Dab some after shave on them, stings like hell but clears them up quickly.
purrrrrrrrrrry Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Have heard that Tea Tree oil is good, also Zinc (preferably with Vit C) as it boosts the immune system. Sunlight can be a trigger, so using a lipbalm with a decent UV filter (e.g. Soltan from Boots) can be useful in preventing attacks. An amino acid called L-Lysine is supposed to be excellent in minimising an attack, and can be used as a preventative, but TBH I'd recommend that you speak to someone in the know - such as Andrew in the Castletown Health Store - he really does know his stuff. If you can't get down there, contact him via the website http://www.health-store.co.uk/ but the shop is well worth a visit.
the mo beats experience Posted July 21, 2004 Author Posted July 21, 2004 Its my understanding that when ya get one on ya lip, its a coldsore. anywhere else and i'd start to worry! but its on my lip, geo, so i'd like to think its a coldsore, i haven't kissed any "dirty women",as my mother would say, either! its a problem that i've been plagued with since i was about 18, they rear their ugly heads on my ugly head, approximately 4-10 times a year. i'm currently conducting an experiment, its my opinion that the creams ya get are useless, and only prolong the inevitable. i haven't used any for a while on them, they come and go within 2 weeks, scab over quickly and generally don't cause too much fuss. but someone very dear to me has convinced me to use cream and i'm doing so. findings thus far do not fill me with confidence! i started putting the cream on as soon as i felt the small lump and tingle on my lip, yesterday morning. i've been putting it on after every meal, also a couple of times a day, when i get up and before bed. the damn thing hasn't broken the skin yet, its been stuck in its most uncomfortable, painfull stage since last night! whats more, it appears to be growing, and it looks as though i may have 4 blisters in the same area. the whole of that side of my mouth is tingling and is fairly painful. me no like it! i'll report back later! anyone got a crash helmet i can borrow?
WilDDog Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 when i get up and before bed. the damn thing hasn't broken the skin yet, its been stuck in its most uncomfortable, painfull stage since last night! whats more, it appears to be growing, and it looks as though i may have 4 blisters in the same area. the whole of that side of my mouth is tingling and is fairly painful. me no like it! I suggest a trip to your doctor, it could be really bad herpes, (coldsores).
the mo beats experience Posted July 21, 2004 Author Posted July 21, 2004 no xxxx sherlock, coldsores are herpes, its the workings of the cream thats the only thing thats diferent about this time.
Minnie Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 A cold sore is oral herpes, isn't it? Have you tried the doctor, apparently severe, recurrent attacks of cold sores can be treated with tablets.
WilDDog Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 no xxxx sherlock, coldsores are herpes, its the workings of the cream thats the only thing thats diferent about this time. heh, whatever, but a trip to the Doctor could help. http://www.herpes.org.uk/coldsores.html Same site but this link will help if you get em on your genitals, isn't google wonderful http://www.herpes.org.uk/faq.html
geo Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 How did I get my cold sores? You catch it the first time by being kissed by someone who has cold sore virus on his or her face. This may have been when you were too young to remember – or just the other day. It is only caught by direct skin contact, not through sharing cups, cutlery, towels, etc. How is it passed on? You pass it on by kissing someone when you have a cold sore or when you feel that one may be coming. If the other person does catch it from you, sores appear on the bit of body you kissed. Oral sex is a common way of passing on cold sores from one person’s mouth to another person’s genitals (genital herpes). News Flash, announced today on local buletin board "Kissing the Mo Beats Experience is likley to give you Herpes !!!" Get it sorted Mo !!! Geo
Ean Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 So thats what the mo beats experience is, i did wonder!
the mo beats experience Posted July 21, 2004 Author Posted July 21, 2004 Dog of the Wilderness, i salute you sir, i've looked on google for information many times in the past, and never have i found such a site of great information, i'm going to stop using the cream right away, as it says: Aciclovir creams may prevent a sore from developing if used within a few hours of the first tingle, however they do not help with healing once the blister has appeared. The following 2g tubes contain 5% aciclovir: Herpetad (£4.29), Soothelip (£4.49), Virasorb (£3.95), Zovirax (£5.49). Do not use aciclovir cream on the lip itself or for long, as it may irritate the skin. i've been kinda spreading the cream around the area, it would appear that is why the surrounding area has become enflamed. it shows how much of a rip-off these creams are, because you can only actually use these creams when you feel the tingle, but the sore develops very quickly after this point. so for the creams to be effective, you'd have to have one about your person all the time! after using this information i shall report back with more findings, the experiment takes a new turn!!!!
