zephyr Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 The battle ground’s selected The choice of arms is made Valour in the public house Once more will be displayed The ranks of bottles are lined up The combatants are well trained Before the evenings at a head The barrels will be drained Let’s drink a drink for long lost friends Or those who’ve gone away We’ll raise our glasses to old comrades Who couldn’t join this fray As each pint of porter is well and truly drained Heroes of other fights will be lauded, toasted and named The fracas continues without pause all the long day through Who will be the first to succumb? Will it be me or you? The end of the night we’ve fought a good fight The drink we have drunk to the dregs The beers all gone we’ve conquered and won Now we stagger on uncertain legs The valiant crew are beheld by the throngs Slurring the words of age old songs When the hangovers have relinquished their pain We’ll fight on regardless, we’ll do it again
zephyr Posted July 22, 2004 Author Posted July 22, 2004 Yesterday the lead fiddler of King Chiaullee approached me and asked for a song concerning drink, this is the second go at a song. How the hell do you write a song? I asked a lady I know (who is a writer) if she would help, she couldn't because she writes serious stuff, never mind eh! I would like to say that I took influence from The Pogues but this is so far away from Shane Mcgowns stuff. By the way How do you write a song, should the music or the lyrics come first?
