Gladys Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Just finished this book and really enjoyed it. An unusual premise, but un-put-downable, as they say.
The Old Git Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Listened to is as an audiobook last year. As you say, unusual story, but quite enjoyable.
P.K. Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Agreed. Although I thought the hangers-on in number were a bit false and unnecessary to the story. As per the missus figured out the ending long before I did!
Gladys Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 I thought the hangers on were intrinsic to the story, tbh. What had started out as one man's personal mission was hijacked by the media and general public who came very close to destroying it when they thought of sending an advance party to Berwick. Far from helping, they were hindering Harold and very nearly defeated both his stated objective, but more importantly, his own 'mindfulness ' of his life.
doc.fixit Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Gladys, I'm just about half way through a book called, 'The Fish Ladder'. A sort of pilgrimage by a lady who had a miscarriage, who is adopted and is trying to get her life straight again by trying to follow a river to it's source. ' A beautifully written meditation of what it is to be alone, of yearning for connection and of the consolation of nature'. So far a truly emotional, evocative journey..............maybe the sort of book you would enjoy?
Gladys Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 Thanks Doc, I'll search for it. Kindle is a great invention! On the recommendation of a friend I am now reading Huntress Moon by Alexandra Sokoloff. Funnily enough, it is set in the same part of the world that we are currently holidaying in, so I can place all the locations in the book. It certainly rocks along at a different pace to Harold!

I visited a lard factory to sort out my issues after my divorce, and wrote a couple of rabbit songs. Enough for a couple of books there.
irishwasa Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Hmmm.... got part way through Harolds journey, but lost interest. It wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't a book that could keep me captivated - I found the day to day stuff quite repetitive. I have read much better / more interesting books (although that is a very personal call).
