ManxTaxPayer Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 Oh yes. So exciting. Got to be Lewis for the the first honours of the year!
ManxTaxPayer Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 Hmm, peculiar new qualifying system. Just watching the C4 highlights, it's all done and dusted position wise with 4 minutes to go. Completely lacking in tension or excitement as the clock counts down. Bizarre. Great start for Lewis though! Dominant.
ManxTaxPayer Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 And I don't think I can stand that Welsh kids TV presenter all season either.
ManxTaxPayer Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 Some interesting comments from Lewis regarding bringing the challenge back to the drivers rather than the engineers post race. He'd like a clutch and a gearstick for example. I dunno about it really, there's plenty of alternative motorsports he could do to get that. F1 is about much more than the driver.
ManxTaxPayer Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 That qually system will be gone within a couple of races.

ManxTaxPayer Posted March 20, 2016 Author Posted March 20, 2016 Well, that was a good opener! Enjoyed that. I was struck by how much overtaking there was too.
notwell Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Even if the result was completely predictable. Glad Alonso got out of that smash. A testament to the amazing strength and safety of the cars.
war baby Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 A good idea to promptly bin the stupid new qualifying format, although the first session was OK. Anyway, it's gone already, so no need to dwell on that. An exciting start in the race which made the rest of the event better than it could have been. Fernando's major accident could have been a disaster had he hit something hard, but the rolls dissipated the energy. A testament to modern safety, but F1 is never going to be risk free. Overall, though, it was the mixture as expected. I can only hope for a completely revised formula in 2017.
Mission Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I missed the qualifying as I forgot to record it all on C4 before I set off for work on Saturday morning. A good start to the season race wise though, a nice bit of drama and already at least 1 McLaren and 1 Ferrari could be on the back foot with engines. Nice to see a new team take decent points on their first outing as well. I fair nearly pissed myself when Arnie rocked up - where was his doppleganger though!??? With 21 races this year, it is a shame to have to wait a fortnight for the next one (especially as it is a bank holiday weekend next week - a live C4 weekend would have gone down a treat for me personally) but yeah, roll on the next one.
Lisenchuk Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 No terrestrial F1 coverage after 2018 as Sky secure rights to broadcast exclusively. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/formula-1/2016/03/23/f1-drivers-write-open-letter-demanding-change-and-attack-obsolet/

Another sport that will be dead to me.
ManxTaxPayer Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 Nah. Bernie losing me as a fan. Me freeing up a lot of weekends to do something more constructive. Win win. That's what happened with Moto GP. Although that was Dorna rather than Bernie.
