notwell Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 So, Guy Martin is back on a Honda alongside John McGuinness. Great news for the TT. It'll be interesting to see how he goes especially given how slow the bike was last year. I assume Honda have gone back to the drawing board to provide them with a competitive bike.
Lost Login Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 So, Guy Martin is back on a Honda alongside John McGuinness. Great news for the TT. Not if he kills himself doing it. That would bring the TT to all the tabloid front pages for all the wrong reasons.
notwell Posted January 19, 2017 Author Posted January 19, 2017 What, so depending on how famous someone might be they shouldn't do it for the long term benefit of the event?
rmanx Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Maybe his TV cheques are running low and he needs a top up
notwell Posted January 19, 2017 Author Posted January 19, 2017 I suspect he's making a decent living outside of road racing. Nice to see him back.
Rhumsaa Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Has Guy Martin now lost his image as a plucky lovable underdog?

HeliX Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Has Guy Martin now lost his image as a plucky lovable underdog? Not to me, though he seems to cop a lot of hate on Facebook for not winning yet. Presumably from people who've never entered a race in their lives. Which is a bit sad.
notwell Posted January 19, 2017 Author Posted January 19, 2017 He does win though. He's won plenty so I don't quite get that bit. Assuming they are ranting on about the TT then so what? He's serially on the podium (which in itself is an achievement) and time trialling doesn't suit everyone. At the speed and standard the very top riders are riding at you know if you go 10 seconds down it's going to be very difficult to get that back. Especially at 132mph plus laps (of which GM is one of those few to have done it).

manxb&b Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Josh Brookes back as well, on a Norton/Aprilia.
Stu Peters Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Oh dear. GM has more skilz on a motorbike in his little finger than I'll ever have, but he doesn't have as many as the regular winners, or the apparent death wish of the Dunlop boy. I fear this may end badly.
notwell Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 Eh? Do you actually watch the TT at all? I assume you are referring to Michael? He's probably one of the smoothest riders out there. You don't lap at over 133 mph being out of control with a death wish. I think if you are implying the death wish aspect to any TT rider then fine, I guess. But at one specific rider? I'd be more concerned about someone like Dan Kneen to be fair. And even Anstey seems to have got very ragged trying to push to keep up with the top 3 or 4. GM's skill on a motorbike vis a vis other top riders is probably a matter of opinion. He's a serial road race winner in his career (there are other meetings other than the TT) and is one of only a handful of riders to steer his bike around the course at over 132 mph. It may end badly, for anyone.
