TheTeapot Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 It doesn't take long to learn no, but it takes a little while to get any good at it. As mentioned above, the reservoirs are well stocked with decent sized fish. You can use spinners in reservoirs apart from Clyps and Kerrydhoo.
quilp Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 I'd like to try freshwater fishing. Presumably this means fly fishing? Does it take long to learn? You can try the fly but it takes a while getting the technique. I practised in the garden with a coke can as a target but I use the fly tackle only rarely. Spinning is easier: there's technique involved in it but a few practice casts and you're away. The right lure usually produces fish. Trout seem to go for different coloured lures on different days so try a few as you go if at first you've no luck, to see what excites them that day. It's probably light-levels and water temperature. Mrs Q has taken to it too because it means a day on the lounger with cold chicken picnic and ice-cold white wine while I catch dinner...

Are trout any good to eat?
TheTeapot Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Take a little BBQ with you, and a pepper grinder and a lemon and cook them right there by the side of the reservoir. Absolutely amazing. And remember to take your rubbish home.
