He has finally recognised that this season is his last. I hope that now he is offered the freedom of London (all of it), an honorary knighthood and the legion d'honneur.

Invincibles 2003/04 38 games unbeaten in the Premier League and the greatest side ever assembled.

The only sadness is that he was too slow to see that it was over.

He should be deported at gunpoint. He's a cheat of the highest order. Every trophy he's won has been tarnished by that and his horrible style of football.

Greatest side that's never won in Europe, perhaps.  A bit like Colin Montgomerie, best golfer to never win a major.

At least all those fans will get want they want now.  Six managers over the next 3 seasons.

Whenever his team were embroiled in an incident on the pitch, I never understood how he always managed to see nothing... What the harry hill was he watching then?

Other than that, he was a great manager

Clearly I expect a lot of folks here are Mancs or Scousers of one footballing persuasion or another, or who knows, even Spurs fans. Yes, the never won in Europe criticism stands up and that might have been what influenced his drawn out latter days.

I'm a Liverpool supporter but recognise a great manager when I see one. In full flow, they were a delight to watch.

That just can't be possible. I asked 6 or 7 united fans before the city liverpool quarter final who they'd prefer to win Each and every one of them said city. Their answer may have in a small way been influenced by the fact they know i'm a liverpool fan but i felt they were answering genuinely. What have arsenal ever done to you for you to pick united ahead of them declan? It's time to forgive and forget for them winning the league at anfield. We bought michael thomas and wrecked his career as payback for that already.

There's a big difference between being a Liverpool supporter from Liverpool and a Liverpool supporter from the Isle of Man.

Is there? Or is this another of your shite trolling attempts...

Well United fans are more of a pain in daily life than Arsenal fans. Interestingly I did see some united fans in recent times show a kind of grudging respect to Liverpool  “...at least they have a history ... earn their own money”  but I suspect that’s aimed at Chelsea and City fans because those qualities also apply to United.

As for Everton I was brought up to think of them as our cousins. Not cousins you actually like or hang around with. Bit like Billy Mitchell in Eastenders, occasionally you need to put them in their place but you don’t actually bare them ill will. So the perfect season would be Liverpool first Everton second. The Derby is way more important than the United games but when Everton play United I want Everton.

But I’m also a football fan and the damage Arsenal have done to football is immense. Ugly, dirty football, promising players players signed and allowed to atrophy  like Theo Walcott, the trend to trash beautiful historic stadiums for branded meccano sets, the media and FA bias in favour of them, Wenger’s graceless, joyless approach to football.  Tony Adams. George Graham. Nigel Winterburn. Charlie George. Malcolm McDonald. But mostly 26 May 1989.
