Speckled Frost Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 I'm back in the IoM for a couple of weeks shortly and I have set myself the task of going swimming in the sea. Where's the best (cleanest) place? Fenella Beach always looks promising, perhaps Port Erin. Where else?
Observer Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 Avoid the Summerland end of Douglas..... Yeuch! I would recommend the NSC in fact. (Edited to add a PS.....) PS Out by Langness is supposed to be excellent for snorkelling/diving. Clear waters and families of seals apparently. Depends what type of swimming you are looking to do I guess)
Stavros Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 I've already mentioned this once today but Port Cornaa coordinate 54°16'N 4°21'W is probably about as clean as they get. It's a nice beach as well. Stav.
Stavros Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 Take me! Take me! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'll always be trying! Stav.
Ripsaw Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 I'll always be trying! Hint for Stav: Manx Ice Cream or Cinnamon Donuts.
Speckled Frost Posted July 26, 2004 Author Posted July 26, 2004 Cornaa's a bit stoney isn't it? Always seem to be bloody film crew's there too!
slinkydevil Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 http://www.goodbeachguide.co.uk/ The Isle of Man The Isle of Man has 1 recommended beach this year, an improvement from zero beaches last year. Unfortunately, the number of beaches failing the minimum EC Mandatory Standard has also increased from 5 in 2003 to a total of 6 this year. However, after ten years in the pipe-line, the new IRIS high grade sewage treatment plant finally went on-line in April 2004. Raw and primary treated sewage, previously pumped directly into the sea, will now be fully treated before discharge. Several continuous sea discharges have also been removed, and coastal water quality is expected to improve dramatically as a result. Derbyhaven Isle of Man OS REFERENCE: 286674
Stavros Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 Cornaa's a bit stoney isn't it? That bit isn't! /Ice Cream & Donuts eh? Stav.
Guest Rox Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 Cornaa's a bit stoney isn't it?When the tide's right in, there isn't a nicer place to swim. Trust me. I've got one of those tacky blow-up seat things too - like a settee that floats. It's even got two little holes to put your drinks in. I can just see us now....... Actually - I just did, "see us now", I think I'll leave the settee for another time eh? Always seem to be bloody film crew's there too! Film crew's what exactly? Ripsaw - stop giving away all my secrets. (You've got a good memory though)
The Old Git Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 Fenella Beach always looks promising, perhaps Port Erin. The toilets on the breakwater use to empty straight in to the sea. I found out one day when a dived off Peel Castle PS Out by Langness is supposed to be excellent for snorkelling/diving. There's good diving there but I wouldn't do it without boat cover as there can be some strong currents at certain states of the tide
Bill Posters Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 Avoid the Summerland end of Douglas..... Yeuch! Bleah, maybe this thread should be "Stink or Swim
