BallaDoc Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 If you haven’t been to see Spamalot yet, I would recommend you go before it closes (runs 3-11 May, Gaiety Theatre). Amazing performance by the cast who put their all into it; fantastic costumes, great singing. I was just slightly concerned about whether the Jewish jokes were a bit too risqué. OK, I know the arts is about pushing boundaries etc. but the unfortunate juxtaposition of the Jewish jokes together with the faded grandeur of the Gaiety made me think, isn’t this a bit…well…1930s? Also, be careful about taking small children because there’s a fair bit of swearing in it. Also some gay jokes. Also some Can-Can dancing which might not please the feminists. But as long as your party doesn’t include children, Jews, gay people or feminists, go along and have a great time.
2bees Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 I thought it was good too. I wouldn't rave about it but it was good
war baby Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 We went to see it a few days ago. I have never seen Mrs WB laugh so much. We thought it was an excellent production, great energy and very funny. As to the humour, it's Monty Python. Any subject was considered ripe for a bit of satire. This was mild. You wait until Life of Brian arrives!
