manxman1980 Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 Rumours starting to emerge that Premier League clubs are increasingly in favour of cancelling the season for dear of being seen as out of touch with society at present. Quote
Declan Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 I don't see why they need to cancel it. Simply finish it whenever they're allowed to play. The games to be played could count to this season and next if neccessary. Quote
manxman1980 Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 I suspect it is because there are suggestions that the UK will be locked down for 12 weeks not the original three and given that the population is not responding to the social distancing guidelines planning the final fixtures behind closed doors could send the wrong message, Quote
Declan Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 I accept that. But the season could be played out in August or next January or whenever football resumes. 1 Quote

Footballers have been out of touch with society for a good many years... 1 Quote
Declan Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 It's not the footballers though, the current generation seem more responsible than the Gazza andTerry eras, but its the owners and CEOs. Quote

It's football as a whole Declan. It's no longer the sport it used to be. it is now purely a business cash cow for those at the top. Not so for grass root level sadly 1 Quote
Declan Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 To be honest, at it's heart the players are just lads who were born poor or at least ordinary, and got good at something they love by hard work. Some are dickheads, but there's always been dickheads - Jimmy Greaves, Dennis Law, Leeds Utd - who you wouldn't want to have a pint with. 1 1 Quote

manxman1980 Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 Actually had a brief chat with him as well. I was hardly going to sit with him and have a drink or meal... Quote

Lxxx Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 It's clear the obvious option now is to cancel the season. The whole country is rapidly losing money, loved ones and patience and football is still arguing about whether to play a few more games so they don't have to give the TV money back. Completely insensitive behaviour. Just wrap it up null and void and plan for a September start again. Quote
