Nomadic Raptor Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 They were quite happy to take the thousand and thousands of pounds to play. Now though they refuse to play but are quite happy to take the money. They can’t have it both ways the organizers are doing everything they can to make it safe if they are going to take that money they just take the risks just get over yourselves
the stinking enigma Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 You must bear in mind if any professional athlete ends up with damaged or scarred lungs after covid it's their career effectively over.
The Dog's Dangly Bits Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 Football clubs are in quite a precarious position at the moment. They have a number of players being paid huge sums which is only possible because of the revenues from television. It appears that many hundreds of millions is likely to be clawed back as the Premier League and UEFA haven't been able to deliver the product. However, the footballers have largely been getting paid. There must be a lot of concerned clubs at the moment.
manxman1980 Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 Or they could die like thousands of others who have caught Covid-19.
Neil Down Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 Could be the beginning of the end of ridiculously high salaries

Shake me up Judy Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 That would be the best outcome for everyone: Clubs, players, fans, and the game itself.
Uhtred Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 Aye lad, tha's playin' f' Rovers f' luv of gaaaame….and a pie after th'bath.
HeliX Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 Whilst I object to footballers salaries at a gut level, I find it hard to argue with the distribution of funds. At least the people generating the revenue are receiving the cash, rather than the fat plum at the top.

In order for the game to survive, the money should be distributed from the bottom up.

My point is that money in a business should go mostly to the people generating it (and the others below them required for that generation to continue), rather than to someone sitting at the top.

It is a game, not a profession. Load of big girl’s blouses getting paid stupid money for f*** all.

Load of big girl’s blouses getting paid stupid money for f*** all. Sure, let's just pick on professional footballers... By your logic all professional sports should fall by the wayside so that would include Golf (might as well watch grass grow), Tennis (grunting people hitting a ball over a net), Darts (bunch of fat blokes that should be in the pub), boxing (two thugs hitting each other), cricket (people stood in a field while the crowd gets drunk with boredom), cycling (lyrca hooligans), horse racing (shouldn't the horses be paid more and not the jockeys?) etc etc...
quilp Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Did you get out of the wrong side of your bed of nails this morning?

The vast majority of covid related deaths are in old people with medical problems - the opposite of a group of young fit footballers. I'd suggest they're as likely to die having a cruciate ligament reconstruction or a broken leg fixed - injuries they are quite happy to risk every game they play - than they are from covid caught during a game. The most ridiculous example would be boxing. I've heard of professional boxing types trying to work out how to get back in the ring with coronavirus around. This from a 'sport' whose main objective is to inflict brain damage on one's opponent.
