Not much understanding of risk in this post.  The vast majority of covid related deaths are in old people with medical problems - the opposite of a group of young fit footballers.  I'd suggest they're as likely to die having a cruciate ligament reconstruction or a broken leg fixed - injuries they are quite happy to risk every game they play - than they are from covid caught during a game.

The most ridiculous example would be boxing.  I've heard of professional boxing types trying to work out how to get back in the ring with coronavirus around.  This from a 'sport' whose main objective is to inflict brain damage on one's opponent.

I understand the risk.  Remember that there have been professional footballers such as Paul Scholes who played with Asthma.  There have been others like Marc Vivien Foe who have had underlying heart conditions.

Football is also a contact sport and each player could carry the virus to someone who is vulnerable such as a member of the backroom team or a family member.

I'm guessing in your eagerness to support pampered overpaid sports people, you forgot to read the bit where clubs will conduct testing on playing and non playing staff...

I would prefer that the general public got the tests rather than a select few...
