Imagine bringing two players on in the last minute of extra time just to take penalties and having them both miss.

Southgate could have brought himself on to do that.

I’ve noticed when penalty takers cock about on the run up, shuffling, starting and stopping etc, they usually screw up. Even the 4th Italian did the same. Just run and hoof it ffs.

Imagine being those two young players. I'm gutted for them.

Not a great sample size :)

And the abuse they will undoubtedly receive on social media.

England played well. So did Italy. Dunno how their captain wasn't sent off though, surely anything that would get you arrested if you did it in the street should be a red card. Ah well. Good squad, good showing, some promise for next year.

Which challenge?

England played well, penalty choices were a bit odd, the subs seemed very late, Grealish should’ve been on earlier in my opinion but if they won it would be a different story and everyone would be singing Southgates praises, I think it just pays to be humble with how far they have come.

Unfortunately the biggest issue with England by far is the so called fans, booing through the Italian national anthem, the stadium emptied out before the medals were even handed out. I bet there will be plenty of criminal damage, fights between rival fans and many wives being beaten tonight, it’s shameful behaviour and they could learn a thing or two from how Southgate handles defeat.

I don’t think it’s a red but what do I know. It was a terrible tackle on both parts but if you stick yourself in the firing line then your going to get hurt, I don’t think his knee was stomped on intentionally, it’s just the follow through, on the other hand I do think it was done to force a free kick.

Edit : oops you were talking about the other foul sorry.

Oh I completely love that err, tackle.

Injury time, some speedy little kid half your age is about to leg it past you and potentially win the tournament, so you take him down by the neck. It's brilliant, and absolutely the right thing to do. As if I didn't already have enough respect for Chiellini.

I’ve seen many people praise that ‘tackle’ I think it’s a yellow, I don’t think it’s a red, intentional foul but not intended to cause injury, there was plenty of shirt pulling from both sides in that game.

I think there's a difference between pulling shirts in a bit of argy bargy and doing it explicitly to pull someone to the ground as a tactical foul... I don't think all tactical fouls should be reds (well, maybe I do, punishing them more harshly was the only way to fix the ridiculous intentional foul spam in NBA), but that one was particularly flagrant and dangerous.

You're not supposed to go in studs-first but it looked misjudged rather than malicious. Yellow was appropriate for that one.
