The process is ... 1. Betting Companies, Russian Oil Companies, vast brewers, sportswear firms that employ child labour, and middle eastern royalty give dodgy media moguls millions to advertise during the game. 2. Dodgy media moguls pay vast amounts to show the game. They pay gobshite presenters millions to blather away whilst executives like Rebecca Brookes & Piers Morgan are tapping murder victim's phones. 3. Governing bodies run by ennobled blazer wearers who blag themselves jet set lives of luxury, sell advertising, sponsorships, broadcasting rights to media moguls, Gazprom, Bet 365 etc and take kickbacks. And you think the young men who've dedicated years of their lives to being good at what they do and whose skills generate all the money should do it for free? Men mostly from ordinary backgrounds, many of whom create charitable trusts for the communities they grew up in. If you think about it football is a really inefficient wealth redistribution system that gets Dubai Princes, Russian Oligarchs, American Lawyers and Australian media moguls to pay for food banks in Salford, and classrooms in Mali.

Watching Premiership games at the start of last season the commentators mentioned that it would be short term until all teams had played their fixtures, the there was the staggering of when the leagues started and it just continued on.

I notice you don't comment on the other points I put forward. BLM did not create the gesture of taking a knee. Colin Kaepernick started to sit during the American national anthem in 2016 before later taking a knee instead. Arguably BLM took the gesture from him. The England team also went to great pains to make it clear that they were "taking the knee" as a symbol of unity against racism. Who are you to then decide that the reason they took the knee is anything to do with BLM? Who are you to decide how long they should continue to do so? Clearly racism is a problem amongst England fans given the reactions that followed the final. Even before then they booed the national anthems of the teams they played against and booed their own players for taking the knee. Pretty pathetic isn't it? I am not deciding anything if you actually look at what I wrote instead of looking to get upset you will see I said some people associate taking the knee with BLM, I also don't decide on how long it goes on for but it was mentioned in the first premiership games of lasts season it was going to go on until all teams in England had a chance to show solidarity, with the leagues being staggered on start times this carried on and then seemed to become the norm. Like I say players can take the knee or not it makes no difference to my life but can you honestly say it has made a difference? if anything going by the abuse players are getting online I would say it is worse than a year ago. As for booing national anthems this has gone on for a while and isn't a new thing it just seems now people seem to have an issue with it I have seen people getting upset that players get booed during the game, again something that has probably been going on since the game was invented.

I agree, the whole thing is rotten from the core

thommo2010 Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 Anyway as this is a thread about Euro 2020 I have to say it was one of the best tournaments I have seen in a while. I had started to fall out of love with football over the last couple of years, to many teams who set up not to lose rather than go out to win, I liked the fact with the best 3rd placed teams going through meaning there were very few dead rubber matches in the last games. The refereeing was excellent was good to see some of the divers get booked and the refs let the games flow. VAR was used well and shows it does work with minimal disruption to the game. A solid 8/10 for me

A solid 8/10 for me 1. There were no Euros in 2002. 2. VAR wasn't around in 2002. Otherwise you made some interesting points.
