It did, but there was no agreement as to what would come after so you are left with the subsequent all mighty squabble.

Having voted to leave there should have been a subsequent referendum to enable the public to vote as what was their preferred arrangement.

Did you not read what I said? There is/ was an infinite number of “ preferred arrangements”

Do we have hundreds or thousands of referendums to whittle it down to one “ arrangement “ .

Thats not really practical is it?

I think rejoining would come with a lot worse terms than the UK previously enjoyed.

Well then that’s a very good argument for not rejoining.
It was bad enough as it was, that’s why the UK voted to leave!

I hope to God that the UK would never rejoin the EU in its current format. But if it were to do so I believe it wouldn’t be on worse terms. The UK made its position clear on “ ever closer union” etc . And hopefully the EU listened, the Brexit vote came as a bit of a shock to them. That should be leverage were the UK ever to rejoin

@The Voice of Reason

Dear me. Naive or what...?

Quick fact check:

The UK came away from the Maastricht Treaty with the best deal in the biggest and best trading bloc on the planet. Full unfettered access and yet retaining the £.

Now all pissed away by the brexiteers. In the case of Farage, Gove and Johnson it was exclusively for personal advancement. For the majority of those who voted Leave it was all about issues around "Immigration" with it's darker unspoken side.

To rejoin the EU, in the unlikely event they accept an application, would certainly mean adopting the €.

Don't see it happening myself...

Yet again you insult those who listened to the arguments and came to their own conclusion as to which way they wanted to vote.( Seemingly because they came to a different conclusion that you did. It’s called democracy, get over it)

And again you claim that Brexit was driven by racism. Have you really no shame?

@The Voice of Reason

Of course racism was a Brexit driver. After all every racist would have voted for it. Why would they not?

So now you can explain why they wouldn't?

Off you go...

Care to explain why you think the UK would get equivalent terms?

I think rejoining would come with a lot worse terms than the UK previously enjoyed.

The answer to that is it's all about the budget contributions. I wouldn’t bet on it ever happening though.

Well whoppy da. The UK gets to keep its own currency.

How grateful it must be to the EU.

Yes , All racists  hate Estonians and Latvians etc don’t they?

No doubt that’s what swung the vote for Brexit.

Looks like you've run out of road...

I always wonder how riddled with bigotry and xenophobia somebody must be just to simply rejoice that the UK is out of the EU.

I expect like me that most are more bothered either way until it actually potentially affects them directly, e.g. economically, travelling etc. Day to day whether in or out it does not noticeably affect most of us directly. Tomorrow would feel roughly the same in or out. Same as if I lived in Wales and they changed the counties back. On a day to day basis would being in say Denbighshire rather than Clwyd have a noticeable affect on me day to day. Not really.

I have lived in England, Wales and the Isle of Man. I might be proud to say I am European, British, English/Welsh/Manx but the relationship between them I am not really bothered about as long as I get on with my life and it is pretty unaffected.  They are just names of areas of the world where I have lived and I would be happy to live in many other areas of the world.

I'll assist you with your wondering. The answer is you don't need to be riddled with anything. You have to understand that a certain amount of this is slapstick with @P.K. , but even so, any rejoicing is nothing to do with a dislike of Europe. I think I've said before that I enjoy the continent in all of its rich variety and have property there. Spain is my particular favourite. It's all about a disdain for the EU and its machinations. Nobody was more surprised than me when the referendum was granted, except perhaps David Cameron who expected a second Coalition government and Nick Clegg to ride to his rescue. I was even more surprised and delighted at the result. Incidentally, non-UK citizens I know, including numerous Asians are equally split on the EU as the British are.
