Nomadic Raptor Posted November 20, 2021 Author Posted November 20, 2021 Got on board with this tonight. Have to say the radio commentary on Manx radio is great, I really enjoyed listening to the game, the quality of the commentary was good and it was good to have meps doing the colour and asking good questions of Maine road representative 2 1 Quote
Nomadic Raptor Posted December 7, 2021 Author Posted December 7, 2021 excerpt from the ravens 12th man Facebook page Please read and share - we have 700 followers so can hit a huge number very quickly. This is a friendly 12th man appeal to all Ravens fans. Following our record attendance at the Rocester game of 2100+ we have seen the numbers drop by around 500 at each of the last 2 games. 1600+ v Maine Road and 1100+ v Alsager. At that rate we could be down to 600 for the next home game v Sandbach on the 18th Dec (the game we are official match sponsors for). While this may be just me with some PM (post match) blues it may also be an early sign of a worrying trend. Yes, there may be genuine reasons such as Christmas parties, the weather and the latest Covid surge. To address those factors, we can all easily do an LFT before the game and wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. Looking around on Saturday night and at Gary Weightman’s match photos, there were at a guess, 500 empty seats under shelter as well as many more unsheltered. To quote the famous Scandinavian maxim “there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing” and we haven’t reached the worst of winter yet. We’ve all been out in the rain and cold before - it’s only for a couple of hours. Of the 15 points available at home so far we have picked up 13 - not too shabby, however there are another 42 to play for yet and we have a massive part to play in securing them all. Remember the crescendo of noise when Furo scored THAT equaliser at the death v Maine Road? We played a huge part in that draw and we need to recreate the same atmosphere at every game to turn the BernaBowl into a fortress! The league leaders West Didsbury visit us at the end of Feb and will bring a large vocal following, at current rate they could outnumber us. The lads have played 18 away games, including 5 midweek, all meaning time off work, early starts, boat/plane/coach trips, late getting home, nights away from family. All we have to do is buy a ticket, turn up for 2 hours, make a load of noise and have a great time, to repay the undertaking and dedication shown by the club. Nobody gets paid for this, everyone is voluntary and have climbed mountains to make this happen - our part as supporters is just that - to support! Let’s get the Christmas gate back up to 2K to finish off the year Ravens style 🇮🇲 #UnleashTheRavens If anyone has trouble getting match tickets please give us a shout. b4mbi Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 It's also possible Raymond Raven ( the decidedly unofficial FC Isle of Man Mascot) will be making his debut.... #scarethebear Quote

I think people might be surprised at what sort of figures a business like MT are prepared to throw at something like this. The “20-30k” mentioned is a junior staff members salary. It is quite possible that they see this as a better investment. Ultimately until such a time as they ask for government money it is none of anybody’s business. There are a lot of people with a real axe to grind about the whole setup though. Agreed. Instead of supporting the team, there do seem many who want to criticise and see it flounder. Quote

Both Guernsey and Jersey have this kind of team already established. https://guernseyfc.com/news https://bulls.je/ Yes the sums involved will be hefty, but if local businesses want to sink their money into it then brilliant. Government could do worse than use some of their tourism budget on it - it will bring some off season visitors to the island and would be no more wasted than sinking it into TT. Might be nice to see some proper football fans on the island if the away teams bring them - beats the plastic Liverpool, Chelsea, City and Man United fans you see in the pubs week in week out. The Bowl has always struck me as a bit of soul-less place and it will be interesting to see if they can sell out on a wet and windy night in November. 100% accurate. Quote

They'll travel halfway around the world but can't be arsed going down the road. Do you go to support the Ravens, Peter? Quote

Agreed. A quick scan at some of the other teams social media in the North West Counties Football League, Division One South, suggests entrance fees of £5 for adults. £9 does seem a bit steep. Quote

I don’t think it’s nobody’s business how the footy club is financed. People are being asked to take a leap of faith and become members, buy season tickets, players are giving up time to travel away, the local league has lost it’s best talent. Personally, I don’t want to invest emotional capital into supporting a team that won’t be here next month. So I think it’s reasonable to ask is it financially stable? That said I don’t think there’s a Mr Big financier in the background. So double negative means it IS peoples business? Anyhoo, the HQ thingy - do tell. Not necessarily Mark E Declan, but anyone with the goss ... Quote
