Declan Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 I think Boris's strategy will be when the Sue Gray Report is out will be to say "there's nothing in it we didn't already know, let's move on." Quote

Given that there are now reports that Johnson had a birthday party with around 30 people in attendance at Downing Street during lockdown I suspect that we might be waiting a long time for the report. The strategy at the moment seems to be to drip feed new information and revelations to bury Sue Gray under so many instances and allegations that the report will never be finished. ETA: Cressida Dick has now announced that the MET Police will be investigating several incidents of rule/law breaking at Downing Street. Not waiting for the outcome of Sue Gray's investigation. Cynically I think this will see a delay in Sue Gray's report being published as doing so would potentially prejudice a criminal investiagtion. Edited January 25, 2022 by manxman1980 Quote
Declan Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 They've announced this will delay publication. However, any charge will just be a fixed penalty offence. 1 Quote

You will have had your own views on the EU which is fine. What many of us do believe though is that all racists will have voted for brexit because the media sold them the lie of schrodingers immigrant. That is the immigrant who comes to the UK to steal your job whilst simultaneously doing nothing but sit on their arse and claim benefits. They are the immigrants who work in public services whilst being accused of being a strain on the same public services. Firstly your claim that many believe “that all racists will have voted for Brexit because…..” What about all those racists who voted to remain because they have friends or family in EU countries and freedom of movement would suit them for practical purposes. The net immigration figure may not change post Brexit. The proportion of those coming from EU countries may decline but those from outside the EU will not be discriminated against by virtue of geography. Re the media, yes there may be a week old copy of the Daily Mail in the waiting room of the hospital or doctors surgery but having been seen and treated by say a doctor from the Indian sub continent, that is more likely to influence a patient about the benefits of immigrants than the propaganda in such rags. I think you do the British populace a grave disservice when you assume the levels of racism that you do. Yes of course there will always be dyed in the wool racists but we no longer live in the age of Alf Garnett. In my years I have seen how much more inclusive British society has become, not that we can ever be complacent. Quote
Lost Login Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 My money is on Boris still being PM for a fair bit yet as I don't see why any party would want to see him replaced at present if you are only considering your chances of winning a general election and not what might be best for the country. For the conservatives there is plenty of bad news around the corner with inflation. NI increase etc so far better to let Boris to take the flack for that and then replace for the next general election in the hope that it is Boris rather than party that the public blame. For opposition parties presently Boris is pretty unpopular, certainly far more unpopular that the conservative party as a whole, so you have an easy target. I appreciate you could reverse those arguments but I expect that is what the parties may be thinking so whilst we may see a fair bit of noise I don't think either party would privately be unhappy for Boris to stick around for a while. The Phantom Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 I think I'm going to blame Carrie. No joke, she does seem to crop up in these accusations and photos more than you would like to expect. If I was PM I dread to think what policy decisions my wife would suggest I consider. I'd rather face down Putin. He's a buffoon, but I think he has got the big decisions correct over the last few years. Quote

opusManx Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 I wonder if BoJo has rewatched "Wag the Dog" again recently. Right on cue, he's trumpetting on about the Russia-Ukraine tensions to distract from domestic troubles. They really do think most of us pleibes are that stupid. I know what you will say..."well, the pleibes elected him, so...". Sadly true. Hope dies last. Quote

I would have preferred a different outcome but that’s the way it works. Who decides who is stupid and who isn’t? ( best exemplified by the Remainers) Quote
manxman1980 Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 The UK electoral system needs changing as the current first past the post system often elects candidates and Governments who the majority voted against. Unsurprisingly the two major parties are dead set against it. Quote

The day he looses his power is the day that many who are supporting and protecting him now turn on him. I am not sure how much trouble that will leave him in but presently I think potentially he has far more to worry about Jennifer Arcuri and other cooperating with the GLA than the Sue Gray report as that might leave him charged with the offence of misconduct in public office Quote
