“As someone said”

Why not read it for yourself and make your own mind up rather than rely on second hand reviews from “ someone” ?.

You need to man up and stop basing your opinions on what you are fed from the sources you choose to inform you ( Guardian etc) and make your own decisions.

What part of "I've better books to read than Nadine's fantasies" is it that you can't understand...?

We all know the much hackneyed "sovereignty" that TVOR keeps banging on about was way down the list for brexit causes with "immigration" being the top reason.

Ah yes, the EU in 2024. There are currently nine states recognized as candidates for membership of the European Union: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, and Ukraine.

Seems folks still want to join...

At least you've learned to spell.

Every single one of those is a basket case looking for a handout, with the possible exception of Turkey which has no chance of joining.

It’s difficult to imagine that you can’t learn something about somebody from reading their autobiography, Or in  this case, more their memoirs. Be that favourable or not.

As I alluded to in an earlier posting re Alex Ferguson and his book. I had no real feelings about him, not being a Manchester United fan. But reading his book I had a better insight into what made him tick.

In this instance reading his book did make me appreciate of how he made use of psychology and relations both internal and external to make Man United  ( much to my chagrin) the force they were under his team management

I am not saying I anticipate  that reading Boris Johnson’s memoirs will turn me into a fan of his but I am interested in what he has to say given the position (s) he has held and the interactions he has had with other notable figures both domestically and internationally.

And what on earth is wrong with that?

Here’s a tip for you, when you reach the bottom - stop digging

I wasn’t intending my critique of the Dorris book to be a “ ringing endorsement”. Why on earth would you think I meant it to be? It was just my thoughts on it.

It seems counterproductive to tell someone that they should read a book and then say that the book is a bit rubbish.

That is hardly going to make me want to pick up the book regardless of who the author is or even what the topic is.

The JRM documentary might be entertaining. People seem to like programmes on how toffs live. It could possibly be rubbish though.

I am a bit puzzled though. You seem to phrase your questions as if I am a Conservative supporter.

It just so happens that a lot of the recent and planned output is from Conservatives.  They need to do something after they have lost their job.

It also just so happens that many of the people who have been mentioned so far are Brexiteers or at least 'delivered' Brexit.  I know that certainly is something you support.

I'm not. My politics lean towards the left but I do have an interest in politics as a whole.

It doesn't come across this way in any of your posts.

It maybe not the greatest analogy but I do support a particular football team ( not Man United)

But  I am interested in how the football industry as a whole works. And so I will read autobiographies or biographies from individuals be they owners, managers or players from other teams

Re your question about Alex Fergusons books “ My autobiography” and Leading” are the ones I have read if you’re that interested. He’s an interesting character  ( and a fellow socialist) who undoubtedly has achieved a large measure of success

Thanks.  I still have Leading to read and really need to make time to do so.

Absolutely nothing. You’re your own person and can make your own choices. That others here are telling you you are wrong for doing so is synonymous with the polarity of the world right now where, if you don’t agree with the opinion of another then you are wrong. Enjoy your book.

eta - I’ve quoted passing time instead of Voice of Reason and don’t know how to change it.

Quite so.

If @The Voice of Reason wants to post up on here more evidence of his poor taste and judgement then that's entirely up to him.

Although trying to get others to waste their time and money in a similar fashion is not on really...

Excellent piece on Liz Truss trying to tell the tory conference how much better things would be if she was still in charge:

Truss events have almost become freak shows where audiences turn up to see what mad thing she will say next

Delusional...

Looks like she's going to be the new Ted Heath without even being an MP.

Just watched  the half hour interview between Tom Brady and Boris Johnson on ITV.

I know that as someone with left wing leanings I am supposed to hate him with as much venom as I can muster.

But unfortunately I do have a British sense of fair play.

He did answer the questions well. Particular the ridiculous accusation that he was devoting too much time to writing a biography of Shakespeare instead of doing Prime Ministerial things.

He also questions Sue Grays investigation into Partygate given her current job in the Labour Party ( without mentioning the salary she is now on).

Also how the UK benefitted from having earlier access to vaccines than the EU during the pandemic.

It certainly was an interesting watch whether or not you are on the same  political side.

Why do you label the accusation of him writing his Shakespeare whatever "ridiculous" when his laziness is well known?

Why did he question Sue Gray's investigation?

Did he play the brexit card on the vaccine rollout?

Tom Brady?  The American Football guy or am I missing something?  🤣

I used to like Johnson when he was on Have I Got News For You.

I even thought it would be funny if he became PM.  Boy was I wrong!  The only people who had fun were him and his mates.

Should he (or anyone) have been writing a book while occupying the highest office in the UK?

Most contracts of employment require you to dedicate all your efforts to working.  Unlike most jobs PM comes with a house, a good salary, security, and transport all at the tax payers expense.

I think the investigation was fine and please correct me if I am wrong but wasn't Sue Gray chosen by the Tories to conduct the investigation?

I agree that her role with the Labour Government now looks odd.

This is the same guy who writes in his memoirs that he actually considered a military incursion into the Netherlands to obtain vaccines.

Should a Prime Minister be spending time watching Arsenal (in a freebie private box) ?

I think they should be allowed to have some time out to indulge in private pursuits.

I don't know if you do it deliberately or not but I will try and explain.

The writing of a book about Shakespeare (or whoever) is intended to generate income for the Author.

While I support the PM in being able to have personal time to relax and recharge I don't agree that they should have a second job or income.

The use of Private Boxes to watch sports etc is a horribly gray area.  Sunak watched Southampton from the stands but it has been said that he was surrounded by security staff who evicted normal fans from their seats.

I don't like PMs getting freebies because of the risk of corruption.

I don't like them having second incomes as it means that they are not focused on their primary job.

None of the above is illegal or banned though if handled in the right way.
