The Phantom Posted October 31 Posted October 31 More completely rational behavior from the Russian Courts! "A Russian court has fined Google $20 decillion (£15.4 decillion), which is a 20 with 33 zeros, a figure that vastly exceeds the world’s combined wealth. There are not 20 decillion grains of sand on Earth or stars visible in the sky. The penalty is a culmination of a four-year court case that started with the Google-owned YouTube banning the ultra-nationalist Russian channel Tsargrad because of United States sanctions in 2020. Since Russia invaded Ukraine, YouTube has removed hundreds of channels associated with state-linked broadcasters, some of which are suing Google. The court imposed a fine of 100,000 roubles ($1,025) per day, which doubles every week, reaching the eye-watering number of two undecillion roubles, which converts to $20 decillion. The fine came as Google reported its quarterly earnings on Tuesday, which came in at $88.3 billion for the three months until September. Paying off the fine could take the company 56.65 septillion years, which is more than 4 trillion times the age of the universe." 1 2 Quote

It's a macho thing, and they do it all the time. Like when they wished Litvinenko a speedy recovery, or the time they insisted that their Novichok poisoners were just innocently sightseeing in Salisbury. They make sure we know they're taking the piss too. They want us to know how brazen they are, and they make it clear by their over the top actions and tongue in cheek denials of culpability that they don't give a flying fuck that we know. It's a sinister warning. 1 Quote

The Poles, Germans, British and French are all members of NATO and therefore will surely be conflicted and unacceptable to Putin given that the Ukranian conflict is all "about" NATO expansion. Putin is not going to accept a NATO "border force" on his new "border". Quote

It's more nuanced than that. He doesn't necessarily want to leave it. It's aims are in line with US interests after all, geopolitically and militarily. He does want to recast it with Europe taking more of the strain and the cost of its own defence, and questions why the US is paying ten times more than Germany. https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/07/02/nato-second-trump-term-00164517 2 Quote
