2bees Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 I’ve noticed a lot of people out training for the parish lately. I might even have tried a bit harder with training this year myself. But it has come to my attention that some walkers are “a bit mad” and likewise some drivers have absolutely no idea what to do when passing walkers. I’m no expert but I thought walkers were supposed to face the on coming traffic, this isn’t how some people operate and it’s a bit of a worry. Another concern is the lack of visibility, I’m not saying people should wear twatty hi-viz gear but it really helps in the whole staying alive thing if people can actually see you before they nearly run you over. I wear an orange Kagool, it’s not hi-viz but it’s kinda hard to miss also. And drivers, there are some lovely people on the islands roads, they see you walking on their side of the road, indicate and pass without any ado (these people get a smile and a big wave of thanks). There are also people who just pull out and pass without any problems (these folk are worthy of a quick smile & wave of thanks). On the opposite side of the coin there are utterly ridiculous idiots who pass so closely that you feel the need to pull in (or have a full on dramatic episode and dive into the hedge while mouthing “are you actually serious?” to them) or the nervous (shouldn’t be on the road in a car) drivers who slow down to a virtual stop and wait for you to stop before deciding what action they should take next (they get the head shake and eye roll). It’s great to see so many people out and about, walkers, runners, cyclists and drivers, each one enjoying our beautiful island but we all need to be feeling the love (or whatever) when I’m driving I want to see those who are on the roads but are not in or on cars/motorbikes/etc and when I’m walking I just want to make it to June 18th, after that - go for it, run me over, if I don’t finish it this year I’m going to burn my trainers and take up crochet! 1 Quote

2bees Posted June 19, 2022 Author Posted June 19, 2022 Bloody great day yesterday!! Again, cars are a problem, having to ask people to shut their door so you can get past and also having to walk on the road because people are parked on the pavement it’s just not on! Quote
2bees Posted June 19, 2022 Author Posted June 19, 2022 Feet are fine, it’s me quads, guts and head that are the problem but I’m off to the spa in a bit - that’ll fix me Funny stories, 1. Going over the blackboards bridge just as the train went under it - face full of soot 🤦♀️ 2. Dad drove past me at Whitestrand, so I waved and thought “great he’s bound to stop soon” - 7 miles later 🙄 I never thought I’d say it but I love the parish! 1 1 Quote
jackwhite Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 Hats off to you. I would never contemplate it as there must be a lot of training needs done for it and the absolute agony people endure on the day and days after. Where did you get to? Quote
The Bastard Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 Andreas is pretty damn impressive, that's a long way. Well done ! Quote
