jackwhite Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 Shaping up to be pretty interesting with some of the signings so far. For me I just can't see past City. They were always missing that classic number 9 and now they have Haaland I think they'll run away with it. He does miss quite a few games with injuries though so it will be how they manage that. Then when you look throughout the team they have quality all over. People were critical of the Phillips signing but he's another I think will do well. Lots of energy and a decent player. I just don't see any weaknesses in their team at all. Liverpool, as always, looking decent and will be interesting to see how Nunez gets on. I think they're looking at building post Salah and where they're driving this. Lots of quality in the front area. Full backs the usual stalwarts, who will again be critical. They look solid in the middle of defence and, for me, have the best keeper in the league (possibly the world at the moment). Still think they lack something in midfield. Really like Thiago and Fabinho but feel they could still improve in these areas. Not a big fan of Henderson but he's done a job and is the captain. Chelsea's form pre-season must be a worry even though they've brought in improvements in Sterling and Koulibaly. Really like the latter. Does baffle me why he won't give some of the talented youngsters they have a chance but his call. He's very much his own man. I think they'll struggle this season unless they sign big. Arsenal have also spent big (unlike them) I'm just not convinced by Arteta. United have a good manager in Ten Hag and apparently got them playing well. They badly need signings though. Find it bizarre that they've signed very few so far and the ongoing saga over De Jong. Tottenham have had an eye catching summer and I am actually really interested to see how they get on. They were stupidly inconsistent last season but a match for anyone on their day. Have strengthened again and looking in good shape. Outside of that it's the usual dogfight and there are a few obvious candidates for a relegation struggle. Everton have to be among them but that could be applied to almost 10 teams in the league. Thoughts? Quote
war baby Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 I prefer women's football. There is much more thought that goes into the moves, far more delicate finesse. With tits. Quote

More importantly United have shipped out some, but not all, of the deadwood and toxic members of the squad. The new signings are solid but not outstanding. The De Jong situation is linked with him wanting his deferred wages from Barcelona. Something they don't want to pay. Additionally the lack of Champions League football is an issue. As is Van Gaal as the manager of the Netherlands apparently telling his compatriots not to sign for United or they risk their international careers. Quote
jackwhite Posted August 1, 2022 Author Posted August 1, 2022 Familiar with football so know the situation at Utd, if not in depth. They'll probably produce some decent results this season but if they don't revamp the squad sharpish I can't see them getting anywhere near a CL place. Quote
